This is my first post on here so hi everybody :)

I'm planning on converting a MWB 2006 > Ducato into a campervan and I found one I like, but it's currently getting the gearbox repaired as 5th gear has failed.

I've since done a load of research and am concerned about the gearbox/clutch problems owners seem to have had especially with the 'judder' as I live on a steep hill and will need to reverse up it everyday.

What do you think - is it a good idea to buy a van that's had gearbox problems or will they simply reoccur?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts as I'm sure this is a pretty well covered subject here!

The 5th gear problem was on the earlier Ducato up to 2006. The judder was on some of the earlier x250 models which were made late 2006 on. This problem has been resolved on the x250. I did have some judder in reverse on my 2007 Ducato, but my 2009 Citroen Relay (same base) is fine.

Thanks for the reply. Was the judder issue more of a problem on motorhomes rather than panel vans due to the extra weight? I'm also presuming that if a van has judder issues they're consistant rather than intermittent.

The judder was only in reverse and was noticeable on some motorcaravans, including PVC's. It was aggravated by the reverse gearing being too high. I assume that white van man did not notice it because they would reverse more confidently.

It would help if you could tell us the model and engine, because the Ducato had a major change in 2006 from the X2/44 to the X2/50 - the current model.
