Hi all. I've had a new cam belt and tensioner. A new crank pulley and belt fitted to my 1.9jtd ducato. I've covered six miles of smooth quiet driving then there was a very noticible clank as if the belt had snapped. All the belts are still on. I pulled immediately up, turned off and rang the AA. Recovered home now but have to face the gerage in the morning. Has anyone any ideas? Thankyou in anticipation. Bob :-/

Hmm. Maybe. Did have a look under there and couldn't see anything but that thought did cross my mind. That would be a good result. The week I'm having though I doubt it! Cheers

Spoken to the garage. They have taken the belt off again and found that it has jumped a tooth. They said that the water pump has a very slight notching in it when you spin it the wrong way so are going to fit a new pump. Another £76 but free labour although it's probably only a few bolts to fit.
I questioned wether there is any internal damage/bent valve and he seamed quite confident it hadnt. Will a tooth jump cause any issues? Has anyone any experience of this?
Cheers guys. Don't want to get screwed by the garage. :-/

Only one tooth will throw the timing out but shouldn't cause any permenant damage.

That's reassuring to hear. Do you think it wise to have a compression test done?
Cheers for your reply

It will be quite evident if you have a bent valve, down on power, smoking or uneven running.
Good luck.

Had a phone call from the garage and worst fears have materialised!!
Internal damage has occurred. They fitted new water pump and put it all back together and did a compression test and power is well down on cylinder one and two.
They have been in touch with fiat to try and figure why this has happened (belt slipping)/ timing jump.
They are happy to sort the issue as all genuine parts fitted and they agree that this should not have happened so am really pleased with the service so far. Cylinder head off next week to investigate.
