As my van is coming up it's 5 birthday in May it is now time to consider the changing of the cambelt. (according to the handbook this should be done every 5 years).

Has anyone any idea of the time scale to change one of these belts.
Your help is much appreciated as always.

Steve

Hi
This doesn't really answer your question on how long it takes -
Below is a quote from one of my previous threads on (mainly the 2.8) & 2.3 JTD timing belt replacement on the 244 models as the X250 should be the same.
"The 2.3 is a completely different engine & a different method of timing the belt system as I said in a previous post it would be very wise to download the elearn workshop manual from the the downloads section & burn the ISO image to CD. The 2.3 needs a set of locating pins to line up the the two camshafts & also some method of holding the camshaft sprocket whilst undoing the the retaining nut & also locating pins for it (the camshaft sprocket) as well as the crankshaft whilst fitting the new belt! So all I can suggest again is to download the eLearn Manual which gives a explanation with diagrams of how to do it. The proper tools are necessary but these can improvised to carry it out - as I said hofsi did his with improvised locating pins/tools.
To put it simply it is a more complicated timing system than the 2.8 engine so would be very hard without the procedure listed in the eLearn manual.
If after you have downloaded the eLearn RAR file with the ISO in it, you don't know how to extract & burn the ISO to a CD etc as explained in a previous post I would ask someone who does to help you.
Cheers"

I replaced the belt tensioner and auxiliary belts on my Motorhome a 2013 Dethleffs with a 2.3 Iveco engine . Observations. The original belts and tensioner had no signs of wear after 30k miles and 5 years use. All were easily good for another 30k or more. Do not use third party parts use only FIat or Iveco genuine parts, I bought a third party kit and it had more play on the tensioner than was on the original after 5 years and 30k miles. My Motorhome is predominantly used on motorways to the south of Europe long runs very little town use. I have owned since new and think the service interval has a huge margin subject to usage. The replacement belt looked much more substantial to the original. Hope this helps..
