hi Guys,
weird one this,
my Ducato 120bhp 2.3 mjet xlwb Van

3 nights on the trot last week, i had the same issue occur, at the same place!

i had just loaded my van, and went to set off, (the engine had been idling about 5 mins) as i set off, the engine stalls, i restart and the engine management/FI light comes on, and stays on all night, i cover approx 130 miles before switching off, unloading, then 5 mins later start up and do a 40 mile trip home, light still on!

the next day, light is off, i drive 140 ish miles, then do the same as the previous night,

this happened wed, thurs & fri nights last week,

the van has done 182000 miles, serviced regularly. i also fill up with diesel just before this issue happens

so im thinking, possible fuel contamination, or and injection fault, or throttle body/butterfly

has anyone had a similar problem or any suggestions

You say it happens in the same place--is it identical, or quite close? Can you simulate all actions, but park in a different location. I'm wondering if you are getting interference from a cell site, or similar comms. Most vehicles are fairly secure against external interference, but if you have a loose or corroded earth or shield wire, all sorts of weird things can happen.
When the engine dies, is it rapid like turning key off, and is restart ok or slow. Does it idle smoothly straight after restart?
If you have contaminated fuel, the fault won't go away on restart, and more likely show up worse when vehicle under load, eg up hill driving, hard acceleration, etc.

i changed fuel stations, and popped in a couple of bottles of "diesel Magic" inj' cleaner, this stopped the problem,

until monday this week, she stalled in traffic, and the warning light came straiight on, and stayed on most the night, i filled up with BP Ultimate (full tank) and the problem went away, but today it happened again, on remains of the Ultimate fuel, so cant be fuel based prob,

have not had any diagnosis done yet, but its looking like thats the way to go.

cheers

Have you changed your fuel filter as must super markets us bio fuel mix this could be the cause as the temps are droping causing it to thicken.

Cheers mate for that, its due a service in 8000 will wait for then, i only use BP fuel, with a tank of ultimate once a week for its alleged cleaning properties, im going to have her checked out then,
