I have a 2003 Ducato 2.8 JTD Motorhome. not started it for a few weeks as in storage.I came to start it yesterday no go, I have a 12/24 heavy duty jump starter
still no joy?
Put the battery (newish) on charge in situ, have just tried it again  there are no ignition lights, side lights, no interior lights ? but the control panel in motorhome is showing battery good 12.8v so should start. Oh the alarm system is OK when I enable or disable alarm the indicators flash. Checked ignition fuse that seems ok. at a loss now:(

Well, I would be taking the connections off the starter battery, cleaning them and reassembling. Maybe that there is enough contact to show a voltage reading but no ability to give any sort of current...

I presume you have separate house and starting batteries. Check for corrosion on starting battery terminals, check main fuses. Is the alarm aftermarket, if so check the immobiliser function. Most alarms have twin immobiliser functions, one usually cuts start functions, the other cuts "ignition" functions.

Yes I do have an aftertmarket alarm, I click once to disable the alarm & open doors.
Then when I turn ignition on I have to press it again so as to start engine.
Is this what you mean? All connections are spotless.

i had the same thing it turned out to be corrosion between the earth cable on to the starter motor and the body of the starter. remove the cable off the starter motor, clean and replace.

If your battery connections are good, main fuses, etc, ok, then check the alarm. If the flashers and door locks work ok when activating the alarm, they take more power than the side/tail lights do, so it is unlikely to be a battery earth fault. Do your tail lights usually go without the key off? Are you jumping the vehicle battery or house battery? Have you had master battery switches fitted. There may be a fault here.

I got the breakdown out to it, there are 4x midi fuses attached to the + on the battery.
The 150A & the 70A had blown, which state there the Alternator fuse, have just ordered a set.
Hoping this will sort it?

Fuses seldom fail on their own. Before fitting new fuses, check cables for shorts (alternator cable will short on alt pulley if it has been dislodged from the under floor clamp). Was a jump battery connected reverse polarity?

I am wandering if I shorted it, the positive nut on the battery is only mm away from fuse nuts?
Hope I have not knackered alternator.

Just an update, fitted the new fuses. started up first go, well happy. looked like I touched fuse?
Now keep a set of Midi fuses on board

I've got a 2004 Hymer with 2.8 JTD engine, and thought I'd got spare fuses for everything on the van. What do the midi fuses look like ? Are they the same size as the blade fuses that I've got, but higher rated ?

Anyway, glad you're sorted.

Hi Allen
On mine there is a plate by the Pos side of battery with 4 x midi fuses & 1 x mega 150A fuse held on by lock nuts which is about two & a half inches long.,link

I would recommend keeping a spare set as the breakdown guys dont carry these.

Hi ,
WOW they're big fella's aren't they..!!

I suspect they are NOT standard fit,
but for anyone with a modern camper I would be tempted to have a look around the battery area for such things, - and get some spares as necessary,
thanks for the "heads-up" ,
Charlie
