Just about to give our Ducato it's annual service after a year of happy ownership.

It is the 2.5TD engine and has done 240k miles. First Question is what Oil type is recommended, and how much approx? I was thinking given it is an older motor something like 15/40, but am worried about the turbo. I plan to add some stp type oil additive too as I wish to be kind to it due to the higher mileage. What oil is specified for this engine please? Any specs it need to meet?

Second question, regarding the transmission as I wish to replace oil and it has an annoying reverse selection issue (intermittently I am not able to select reverse!)- again which oil, and how much? It is 4x4 so I guess I need to do front and back...the same oil?

I plan to take the sump guard thing off this evening, so these jobs maybe more obvious after this, but any help/ advice appreciated.

hi mine is a 91 and i have just done the same service
for the transmition i used 75/80
and for the engine 15/40
to empty the gearbox unscrew the 2 x22mm bolts on the bottom of the gearbox and catch old oil about 1.6 lt if full.
to refill the transmition take out your spare wheel from under the bonnet and remove the 2 x 13mm nuts which hold the spare wheel carrier take out the air filter and mve to one side, use bungie strap to hold back.
underneath the air intake hose ontop of the gearbox you will see the reversing light censer, remove this with 22mm, take a small funnel and insert into hole, run a small lenth of garden hose from the bonnet to the funnel, insert the end of the bottle thats the pull out pourer it should just fit in the hose and reill or top up whichever you need, much easier than rummaging under the van

Thanks!

So the gearbox only takes a coupe of liters? (Doesn't sound a lot.)

my 4x4 has a dipstick at the back of the gearbox, you can fill it from there.
