Throttle control actuator on a 2007 2.3 Ducato

Hi. I am working on a 2007 Ducato Van with the 2.3 liter engine.
Water has got into the throttle control actuator and rust has partly broken it off the intake manifold part. Error code P0638.

On this van the manifold part is stamped IVECO and the actuator is marked the German company Mahler. The replacement part I got from a Fiat dealer is different in the way it fits right on the manifold but is a different design made by Magnet Marelli. The problem is that the electrical plug on the original has a 4 wire plug marked 1-2-3 and 4 but the replacement part has a receptacle with 5 pins of different shape and marked 1-2-3-4 and 6 and does not fit. Looking at a brand new Ducato with this same engine it is fitted withe same part as I got. Looks like this is a modification by Fiat. Looks like I would need a new or modified cable to get this to work. Does anyone know about this or has a solution for this new part to fit.

Re: Throttle control actuator on a 2007 2.3 Ducato

Hi, being a new owner of a 2007 Ducato for a few weeks, a engine warning light came up had it interpreted as P0638. Looking through threads i assume it is the throttle actuator at fault. The camper runs normally no drop in performance no smoke, drives normal etc
My request is where is the location of the actuator so i can clean the terminals etc and check if it's water ingress.
A photo would be bril. Engine is a 120 mutijet 2.3 litre

Should look like this, I believe it's fitted around the back or side of engine, access from below and above,
A long time since I had a mechanic change mine back in 2010,

Your probably best off just ordering a new one and the modified wiring loom if reqd, Click image for larger version

Older one had actuator on the bottom hence any water of condensation accumulated in it - replacement part moved it to the side.

With the new throttle valve ( 504264089) you need the adapter cable ( 504388738). Parts from an Iveco dealer (same 2.3 engine) will be cheaper. The cable is about 100 from Fiat. Perhaps also try Ebay for a better deal.

The valve will never cause problems again if you do not connect the wiring. The engine runs a bit longer when you switch it off, that's all.
