Hello,

I have a 120 Multijet (model year 2010) which has been converted to a campervan. I have just done a low mileage oil change. I purchased the oil and filter from a Fiat dealer (ensuring genuine parts were used).

I was expecting Selenia 5w 40 (as per stated in service book) but sales guy insisted it required 5w 30. What is the difference ?

Purchased = Selenia 5w 30 WR Pure Energy (ACEA C2)

Manual states = Selenia 5w 40 WR (ACEA B3/4)

Selenia website states 5w 30 should be used for MultiJets and everywhere else states 5w 40. Really confused – can I damage my van. (P.S. it has no DPF).

I also have qustion which type of oil is for FIAT DUCATO 2.3 , 120 MULTIJET , year 2011 , i bought new van , with 0 km on clock.
When is first oil change and which type of SELENIA oil is for this engine.
Remark : NO DPF FILTER

Do a search on ,ACEA oil sequencies' and you should find some relevant info.

eg
C2 Stable, stay-in-grade oil intended for use as catalyst compatible oil in vehicles with DPF and TWC in high performance car and light van diesel and gasoline engines designed to be capable of using low friction, low viscosity oils with a minimum HTHS viscosity of 2.9mPa.s. These oils will increase the DPF and TWC life and maintain the vehicles fuel economy.

and

A3/B3 Stable, stay-in-grade oil intended for use in high performance gasoline engines and car & light van diesel engines and/or for extended drain intervals where specified by the engine manufacturer, and/or for year-round use of low viscosity oils, and/or for severe operating conditions as defined by the engine manufacturer.

A3/B4 Stable, stay-in-grade oil intended for use in high performance gasoline and direct injection diesel engines, but also suitable for applications described under A3/B3.

The viscosity i.e. 5w/40 or 5w/30 isn't quite so important and I wouldn't worry about that difference. The B classification I believe is for diesel engines and the A is for petrol but they can de interchangeable i.e. A3/B3.

Hi,

I rang around several Fiat garages and the majority said that Fiat now recommends Selenia 5w30 PE for all multi-jets - there have been reports of clogging DPF's and cats using the previous 5w40 version.
Also. you can find the most recent oil specs here for the Fiat Ducato range...

ttp:/www.flitalia.it/en/fl/content/view/162/258

Search for you vehicle.

Sorry, missed the 'h' of 'http' for link.

Link has the technical data for all replacement fluids - this information is distributed to the Fiat garages. Contacted Selenia UK to verify (not that I'm paranoid).

I wonder why the JTD models (as oppose to the multi-jets) still require the 5w40 oil instead of the new 5w30 ?

I believe the Selenia WR PE 5w30 is now recommended for all multi-jets - regardless of DPF fitted.

To be honest - both appear to be compatible - depends on which garage you take it to.

Oil viscosity

This chart is from my Citroen Relay X2/50 handbook. As you can see, you would have to be in a very hot country to need above SAE 30
