my fiat ducato motorhome will not start, indicators, lights, wipers etc all work, could this be an ignition switch problem ?

More likely to be battery, lights and wipers only need a small amount of power to work, the starter in comparison needs a huge amount of power.
Have you checked the battery terminals are tight?
How old is the battery, have you tried charging it?
Can you borrow one off of your car to try, it may not be powerful enough for your motor home especially if it’s a Diesel but it should try to turn it over.

Hi , I agree with your 1st reply , and I'll add this ( which I've just popsted elsewhere..)

if the engine crawls over when using the key to start the car..,
try looking at the lights on the dash board , the battery symbol + the oil light may dim when the power is going to the starter,

IF the car is not turning over..!!,
do the lights dim??,
if they do not , and there is no noise from the starter - then the signal to turn the engine is probably not reaching the starter,
in the past I've had a car with a badly worn contacter ring ( at the bottom of the ignition barrel),
one from the scrappy made it 100% right again ,
but with Immobilisers there may well be other possible problems,
carefully see which lights go on / off when trying to crank the engine,
let us know what you find,
Charlie

I had a similar problem with a motorhome several years ago and ended up having to push the van to start it or park it on a hill. I ended up removing the battery and engine earth straps, cleaning the terminals coating the terminals with petroleum jelly and refitting them, that sorted out the problem. Hope this helps

Never coat terminals/posts before fitting them. Clean terminals, clamp securely, then coat them with grease, or whatever you prefer. Coating them first simply adds yet another potential problem. Also avoid products like WD40, CRC5.56 as while they work to stop corrosion by sealing the connection, they also attract dirt, etc. which will eventually build up and create a new set of problems- a layer of dirt will soon create an electrical circuit once moist, causing flat batteries, plus it's a breeding ground for further corrosion.

I had the same problem on my 1999 Dethleffs. It cured itself so I am not happy as I am concerned it will reappear. I was told by ex Fiat mechanic not to use the code key (red one), just use the blue/black keys. If you use the red key apparently the imobiliser keeps trying to recode itself and gets scrambled.
I disconnected the battery again, left it overnight because I was getting frustrated, next morning all was well and it started on the blue/black key, just turned on ignition, waited a few seconds, the code key light went out, I turned the key and it started first go after several days out of service.
Don't know if it is true, but it might be. Anyone else know. Hope this helps
