Whilst having our camper serviced we noticed some brochures on 'remapping'. After speaking to the guys there we decided to take the plunge. Half of me doubted the claims made, the other half was itching to drive home!

WOW! What a difference, thought the guys had changed the engine! It accelerates in 5th gear on a motorway drive and we rarely come out of 5th!

I was sceptical about the possible improvement in fuel economy, but according to my calculations we have saved around 5.7 MPG!! Should have done the remap when we bought the camper.

I must admit Id never heard of remapping before, but if your considering it try this company South Wales Quantum Tuning. They seem to know their stuff!

Hi,
Thinking of it myself, but will you need to inform your insurance company, and what difference will it make to the premium?

You must think we are stupid. But then I suppose we would have to be pretty gullible to believe you aftermarket bods can map an engine better than the engine manufacturers who designed it.
This is supposed to be a forum for serious mechanics. Please go and post your spam somewhere else.

 They can... mine was, so are lots of others on here, diesels in particular but not exclusively.

Manufacturer maps are always a compromise.

Thing is a re-map & / or a Tuning box should really be of good quality, done or fitted with skill & knowledge then used wisely.

Oh & this Forum is for car owners, especially Fiat owners, who have a problem with their cars & want to either have a go themselves or understand a bit more before going to a garage. (y)

And aftermarket maps are not

Gawd, why don't the multi billion research and development facilities at Fiat and Peugeot Citroen consult Quantum Tuning to produce a map for them all if they are that good :ROFLMAO:

I have a customer with a large fleet of Ducs. They had a few "chipped", which I suppose is the same as remapping. The drivers thought they were great, definitely better acceleration and top end speed had a small increase, but, I mean BUT, every mapped vehicle in the fleet has had multiple auto trans failures, whereas the standard vehicles have had few problems. They have the ZF autos and at least 3 of the chipped vehicles had transmissions failing after 50,000km, one vehicle had a trans done at 30k, which also failed 20k later. Obviously the chipped engine is creating stress in places it shouldn't.

Sunshine... please explain to me how a Fiat production plant would devize different maps for cars used at different altitudes, in different climates & with differing fuel quality around the World?

Thats why their maps are generic...

As for SPAM... Yes some cheap re-mappers use generic Maps, thats why in my Posts I said "good quality, done or fitted with skill & knowledge then used wisely."

While you reflect on the above, check out my Posts & Thanks... I dont do SPAM.

As for stresses & strains imposed by chipping, tuning boxes or re-maps.

Yes... they do increase stresses... certainly above those designed in by manufacturers, these things should only be done with those things in mind, not blind ignorance.....

Well if enough people say it you might believe it. But if these re maps were really any good why don't the big courier fleets have theirs done? Could it be their fleet engineers are actually qualified enough to know what they are talking about?
Why don't the manufacturers offer them through their dealer networks - a great opportunity to get customers back into the dealerships.
Why is it that the only people having these re maps done are gullible individuals

I roll your eyes straight back to you... on what do you base your ill advised assumptions?

Fuel economy increases should not be believed, performance improvements are undeniable, I can vouch for that personally from my own experience & I am certainly not gullible.

So why might Fleet owners choose to re-map?

Some dealerships do offer them.

Have you any personal experience or just waffling as a Noob might?

Can you name any competent fleet owners who have had a Quantum Tuning re map?
Or any Fiat/PSA dealerships that offer them?
Or are you just just waffling as a Noob might?:D

are you mad?

No... I dont know who Quantum Tuning are...plus I did say "why would Fleet owners bother...."
Or any Fiat/PSA dealerships that offer them?
Not personally, & I wont waste my life looking for you, but these days companies like the VAG bunch use mapping as a way of changing engine outputs on various different models with the same engine, the 1.2 TFSI lump being a prime example....
Or are you just just waffling as a Noob might?:D

Red Dot Racing did my Re-map on a Rolling Road... 144Bhp up to 194. In 72,000 miles I never had a single problem with the Map or transmission / gearbox etc or the work done. But I had a very fast Grande Punto!

Now your experience is...... ? Nowt! (y)

I'll take that as a 'No' then
You can't name any Fiat/PSA dealers who offer it
You can't name any competent fleet owners who have had it done.
All you can offer is personal abuse. The classic sign of someone who has lost an argument.
So I will waste no more time on you.

Thank god for that...:woot:

whoops

admittedly the last one is from a tuning box but there isn't alot of difference between remap and tuning box and still proves the point

He's a bit of an old lad Jipo... I dont think he's disputing the power improvement of a re-map, he just feels that if Manufacturers / Dealerships dont offer them they cant be good, or right or whatever... Personally if I'd got a Ducato x250 I'd want a bit more grunt lol!

No matter what anyone says he'll ignore the good parts & make his own epically silly statements... glad he's gone now though... (y)

Unless he comes back & actually PROVES he doesnt mean what he says lol!

common sense please

If all that was genuine, why couldn't Quantum Tuning go along to the couriers/large fleet operators and sell it to them? Don't you think they would jump at the chance of saving all that fuel, etc etc
