Hi there,
I have lost the original keys for my 2001 Ducato incl the red key and obviously understand the consequences. I do have one key but its only a copy, its working but not happy not to have any originals

I am in between minds on whether to bring it to an auto locksmithor or buy a donor ducato and transfer the parts

I would really appreciate advice on buying a donor van

(1) Exactely what parts do I need to obtain, I assume ignition and door locks, immobiliser and ecu, is there anything else?

(2) if I have alll the parts and simply swop them, will the van start or will the ecu need to be re-coded form the red key and if so, how do I do it

(3) Do I need the BIS cable, if so what does this look like

(4) I have a code 1 immobilser(yellow) which I have located , can anyone tell me where the ECU is located?

(5) Do I need any special tools to extract any of the parts

(6) How do I remove the ignition key barrell?

(7) If the exchange doesn't work, can I put back the old parts and will they work considering I don't have the red key.

(8) Mine is a 2.8jtd engine, do I need to source the same engine vehicle or will any ducato of the same age do?

(9) I have a quote of €750 to get my own van re-coded and replacemnt keys (not original supplied), is this a better option?

Sorry for all the questions, but any advice would be most welcome

The keys were lost during a trip to the beach so unlikely to be seen again.

I have managed to sort out 3 cloned keys (none of which are Fiat original) and all are working fine.

I am however looking to sort out the isue of not having the red code key have you a solution/

Hi everybody, I've just bought a 1.9TD Ducato-based motor caravan and joined your forum. I also have a concern about the lack of a red key as one was not supplied with my vehicle.

ponsaloti, let me quote verbatim from the Owner Handbook :-

"Key A with the burgundy grip is the "master" key. Only one of these keys is supplied with the vehicle and it is needed by your Fiat Dealership to store the codes of other keys (B) in the memory in the event that you lose or damage a key or other copies. . . . . . . . No repairs can be carried out on the Fiat CODE system or the engine control unit (or injection pump for diesel engine versions) if this key is lost.

I currently have the two (B) keys both of which work ok so there is no immediate problem but the last three items of the above quote are worrying to say the least. A local Fiat dealership reckons that to get a replacement red key would involve changing all the lock barrels, including the starter switch obviously, and probably the ECU costing around £1500 in total. Needless to say I am anxious to get the dealer who sold me the van to chase up the previous owner for the red key but I am not very optimistic.

Mike.
