Hi all

I have a 2.8 JTD on a 03 plate. The problem I have it that the engine management warning light comes on and the engine runs lumpy after a while. I have traced this down to the fourth injector connector. If you unplug this and then plug it back it it runs fine. First time about 6 months before it did it again so did the taking it off and reconnecting it and again works fine only this time for only a week. So Now is it the connector of is it the injector end of the plug that bad. I have read somewhere that this is a common fault with these but mine has covered 95,000 miles with out any trouble. In fact it only started doing it after the last service

Hi!

Just wondering if you where able to solve the problem? And offcause what was done.

Cheers

Hi
This is apparently a common problem & there are numerous posts on the forum relating to it, see previous post - https://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/205055-common-faults-244-model.html

"Problem: Rough running and power down (2.8JTD), sounds like only three cylinders operating.

Cause: Possibly broken/damaged electrical wiring to No4 injector.

Remedy: Can usually be diagnosed by wiggling the wire slightly, which may improve running. Please be aware of possibility of electric shock, so inspect wiring first prior to touching it! I would entrust any work like this to a reputable fuel injection specialist."

Hi!
New plug has been installed on the No4 injector, ran ok for about 500km and now the problem has returned. Took it to a Fiat repair garage, they think that the problem is with the ECU. Has anybody have any problem with the connection on the injector that caused the problem?

Thanks

First thing I'd do is measure the resistance in the loom wires all the way to the ecu and get someone to jiggle the wires in the loom.
Piezo head on the injector or connector on the injector could be dodgy, you could swap number 4 with another that rules out the injector itself.
Cheapest thing to do if ecu is suspect is to get a complete ecu, immobiliser, key set on ebay for about 120 quid then if it turns out the ecu isn't the problem you can sell the kit again losing almost nothing.
