Hi All,
I´m hearing a high pitched squeaking noise from (I think) the front of my motor-home. The noise seams worse when applying a little brake pressure, with a lot it goes away. I also hear it sometimes when no brakes are applied. The warning for the wear indicators are ok, it seems difficult to check the pads manually (any ideas?).
It also could be the wheel bearings, are these easy to replace without special tools?
On another note, I had a bad high speed judder in the steering wheel, with a bad knowcking noise when the steering was turned from side to side while stationary, and also moving on tight corners. My mechanic (who I regret ever meeting), told me it was the steering box. He removed it, did something (apparently got it serviced so the joints fitted together better) and then replaced it and everything was the exactly the same. I told him this, he took it apart again, and tightened something (steering rod I think, there were language difficulties), and it was ok. I feel it (the judder) starting to creep back now at high speeds, and a slight clicking sound when turning a hard right.
The thing is I´m wondering if everything is connected somehow, and what should be my course of action. I´m living abroad and doing the job myself is preferable, but I have no garage and limited tools. An old MOT stated slight bearing wear in one of the front wheels, and I have read that the clicking sound at full turns is due to other bearings in the drive train and not the steering.
I have slightly more wear on one of the front tires edge (bad weight distribution in the van) so I wonder if the steering problems are caused by this.
Any comments welcome!
thanks
