I recently posted X250 Headlight removal, thanks to M30SJM I have managed to remove the lights and fit HID bulbs.
These now work fine with no bulb failure light on the dash, I did swap one of the W5W side light bulb for an LED bulb but the light went on straight away so I went back to the standard side light bulb.
Remove the two screws and lift off the top cover
to reveal
Remove this screw
prise out the rear of the trim
carefully remove the trim
remove the three securing screws
The headlamp is now only secured via a spring clip at the top, grasp the light unit and pull it forward.
remove the wiring connector
I then drilled the headlight housing to make way for the wiring grommet.
Fitted the grommet and the bulb
fitted the ballast to the base of the lamp unit
I then refitted the lamp unit and that was one side done. The offside was the same procedure except for the fitting of the ballast, on the drivers side the screen wash bottle is close to the bottom of the headlight so I had to attach the ballast to the rear of the lamp unit.
There you go an easy enough job! I have been fitting HID's to my cars for about 3 years now and never had any troubles with MOTs etc, mind you I keep away from very blue lights and stay with 4300K colour rating, anything above the 6000K colour temp is a bit too blue and could lead to questions about the lights.
