Before I waste my time and visit the dealer I would welcome comments on this issue.

When I start the engine first thing in the morning and start moving off I get a thumping noise which I can feel through the accelerator pedal. It continues to thump for about 20 seconds and then disappears for the rest of the day and only reappears the following morning.

Any ideas.

AMT or manual? Maybe a problem with clutch plates not bedded in yet?

Its the Comfortmatic gearbox (auto). It was fine when I bought it but this fault developed at about 4000 miles and has persisted for the past 1200 miles or so. The vehicle has been used mainly for long trips - 2 to Spain and a bit of running around.

Its strange that it only happens first thing in the morning and that the vibration/thump is felt only through the accelerator pedal for a short distance.

Does that sound like the clutch?

Any further thoughts anyone?

If I take it to the dealer he won't be able to diagnose the fault if there is one as it is only present first thing in the morning. But its one heck of a thump and not a small vibration.

Does it thump on start up, or after you start to move off. It is idling smoothly in neutral when you first start. Check engine mounts, etc. Check how many local cats are missing- sleeping in your engine bay!!!

There is a slight thump when I start the engine but that is not the problem. I get the same on my auto car.

The thump thump thump occurs when I move off for about 20 seconds and I can feel it through the accelerator pedal. The engine idle's fine and the gearchanges are excellent. The odd thing is that it only happens first thing in the morning. For the rest of the day its fine.

The problem started in the South of Spain so if there was a cat there it should now be long gone.
