I thought this may help out if anyone else has the same problem. The handbrake lever on my 1993 Ducato failed, the ratchet wore out so that the handbrake could not be left on. Fiat were unable to supply a new one, neither were several internet breakers. So what I did was a bought a second hand lever off Ebay for a 1994 - 2000 and whatever Ducato. The cable and the warning light wire connect perfectly. But you need to grind off the metal mounting panel on the side of the seat box and then bolt the handbrake straight to the seat box, there are 3 bolts, I used 10mm bolts with some thick washers. I also used a larger nut on each bolt to space the handbrake about 10mm away from the seat box, that allows you to operate the handbrake easily and put back the plastic handbrake cover.
