hi all,
can anyone help with a battery light on.
i changed the battery, but reading only 12.5 volts on my multi meter.
its a fiat ducato granduca moterhome.looks like its not charging,
is there anything i can check myself before i have to go to the garage.
fuses on the battery seem ok.also in the fusebox.dont know what else to check.

Connect the multi meter to the battery and check the reading is around 12 to 12.5 volts.
Start the engine with it still connected and it should read 13.5 to 13.9 volts telling you the the alternator is working.

thanks froggie,
tried that and its the same.i am going to try and remove alternator myself.
(not sure if its a big job or not.) and have it tested, but its looking like the alternator is not charging the battery.

Don't forget there is a split charge relay between battery and alternator

thanks gbtyke,
will try and locate that, there is a relay top centre of engine bay behind a cover with 2 nuts holding it on.do u know if thats the one?

That is certainly where Swift put their relays and fuses but do not know exactly which one. My drawing shows a brown/blue from relay to leisure battery - brown / green to engine battery - blue to alternator and white / orange to earth.

THANKS AGAIN GBTYKE,
havent had a chance since, due to work.
will have another look at the weekend,
there are no fuses at that location, only 1, 50 amp relay
will keep u informed of progress.
thanks again,
gary.
