Hi, I have a Fiat Ducato 2005 2.0 JTD 1997cc and am changing the vehicle speed sensor as the speedo does not work. on removing the old one about a pint of oil came out, is this normal or was it overfilled and could be the reason the sensor packed up. If it is normal how do I get new oil back into the Diff. thanks for your replies.

Hi,
On my old Boxer 2.0HDI which is supposed to be the same, there was a level plug at the back of the box and I just topped up to the level.

Other than that it would be a case of draining off and refilling the correct amount in through the reverse light switch.

Hi Harley1550
I too have a non working speedo on my motorhome, a 2004 Fiat Ducato JTD 1997cc

My MH was laid up for some months, took it out for a quick runout and found that the speedo was duff. A friend suggested that it could be a bad connection caused by condensation etc.
Not started to sort it out yet but will start with possible bad connections at the back of the dashboard and the sender unit.

I will watch your posting with interest.

Hi, Thanks for the repies, I have now sorted it out . Got a new speed sensor and fitted it myself but lost over a litre of oil when I took it out to put new one in. Then took it to our local garage and they redid the gearbox oil. Now have a working speedo and the engine revs right through as the sensor also gives info to the computor.

Just for the record. My motor home is on a 55 plate and there is no oil level marker on the gear box. The oil has to be drained and refilled via the oil vapour breather pipe, you have to do this on a lift.
