Ducato Maxi 2.8 JTD on 55 plate with electric windows as standard.

The drivers window has stopped functioning although the passenger side still works ok.
I have read here that the windows are connected to the central locking but in this case the locking system works as normal.

Checked the fuse, that's ok.

The drivers window relay makes a muffled clunk.
The passenger side window relay makes a sharper higher pitched clunk. I tested this by closing the passenger window and just flicking the switch quickly toward the close position.

My thoughts were that maybe the drivers side relay ( I assume there is a separate relay for each window) was faulty but I'm not so sure about this.

Has anyone come across anything similar with a Ducato or as I read here is the possibility of a seized window motor the most likely?

Last, I am abroad at the moment with a half closed window. I don't have a security problem where I am located for a few days but then I'll have to leave the van in some public places with the window open, not a comfortable idea.
Is there a method of manually closing the window as a temporary measure?

Thanks very much in advance.

I've now checked the feed to the window motor and shows a 12v live when the switch is operated... this indicates the motor I guess.

Having never seen electric windows before is there a description of removing the motor anywhere on the web, or is it possible to ask a kind soul to give me a brief descrition please?

Thanks

Thanks ourden, I have our usual fitter back in the UK ordering a new motor for us for when we return.

I will also write a short note in a separate listing with the method of getting an open window closed without using the motor.

Thanks again

Hi, did you write the note about dropping window without the motor working.

Mine is jammed up, motor relay clicking, but no movement.
The only way to get the dead motor out is by unclipping it from the glass.
So it needs to be dropped.

Any advice is appreciated.

The new motor is ordered at £155, so I asked the workshop about fitting.

I need to force the top runner bolts out of their locating holes.
Then drop the assembly for access to the glass attachements.
Dissassemble, then refit the new bits.

Cheers (y)

Update:
The motor mechanism was forced out, the glass was unclipped, which then revealed that the green plastic slider had tried to escape and had jammed itself at the top of the metal runner.

A quick poke with a screw driver and it's back where it belongs, working properly.

If your window jams at the top, and it won't come down.
Try this before spending £155 on a motor assembly which isn't required.
Cheers.

Thanks for this information. There is no end stop on the rail so it is easy for part of the green slider to come off if the window is raised too far. I drilled a small hole at the top of my rail and put a small nut and bolt in so that the slider is stopped by that rather than the window being unable to go any higher.
