Could someone please clear this up for me.

I want to change the gearbox oil in my 1998 2.8td
I have read most of the posts on how to change the oil on this forum which is great.
What i am confused about is the type of oil i should use?
On here some people say 75/80 others say it must me 75w/85.
I have rung 4 dealers 2 of them say 75/90 and 2 say 75/80 none of them say 75/85???
The last Guy a spoke to said on a 1998 i should use 75/80 and that the 75/90 is for newer vans.
I have already had to pay £1250.00 for a new gear box so iam nervous about putting the oil in.

Please Help:bang:

75/80 is correct. You will find that a lot of garages including main dealerships will only have 'universal' 75w90 that they lash into everything they never bother to check the book. With most vehicles I would do the same but these gearboxes are just too problematic to risk it.

I had to get my 75w80 from a renault garage they should all have it as the renault 6 speeds run like crap with anything else.

For the newer boxes you definitely want a gl5 fully synthetic.
Make sure to get a fully synthetic gl5

Thanks for the replies, i have ended up finding a localish dealer who sells the Tutela zc 75/80. So thats what i have used. all seems well. The company is called shopforparts based in bradford.

Thanks for your replies.
