I bought a Y reg Ducato campervan 3 years ago and within 2 weeks had trouble opening the side sliding door which would not disengage at the top back. The dealer oiled the pin on the doorframe which holds the door when shut, but the problem returned within a couple of weeks.
I regularly lubricate with oil or wd40 but it is a temporary solution. I open the jammed door usually by slipping my fingers round the back edge with my right hand, whilst operating the door handle with my left hand. A sharp tug usually frees the door at the top. I have to open the door by leaving the driving seat to allow passengers in or out.
Can anyone suggest a permanent solution please?

Hi, i have a y maxi van which suffered from the same problem , the locking fork on the top of the door jumps over the pin and sits behind it jamming the door , the new pin from fiat is around £6 , i took the pinout and fitted a nut and bolt and left it around 1/4 in longer , now the locking fork can,t jump the pin , [ you may have to reshape the fork if it is bent ..this may help your problem . regards chris

hi camionpilot
thanks for this info - you just helped me sort the same problem on my Ý reg ducato camper.
I have 2 tips to pass on...
1. put masking tape on edges of the panel and door and then use a slim 13mm spanner to undo the pin. once it drops out the door opens
2. my pin had flat spots caused by wear on 2 sides. putting a thin washer on the thread before screwing back in moves these round to another point on the pin where the fork doesnt touch AND in effect makes the pin longer

hope this helps someone

I have noticed that same wear on the pins of my 2011 Ducato. In fact, a lot of the door location pins, they get worn square or holes get opened out. They're probably all available on popular online auction sites, but check that the ones you intend to remove and replace can actually BE removed. Some of those on my van are impossible to turn - I wonder if they're glued in. Same on the replacement back doors.
