Hi all i have a 2007 Ducato 2.3 diesel and up until this Monday never had a problem .(bar the noisy reverse) Went to start van after winter break and after it had started yellow engine light on and a reduced power output . Had a diagnostic done and it came up with the code P0016 Timing RPM Synchronisation . The van continued to run for a day on reduced power (had a job to do) then would not start at all . Recovered to main dealer for them to look at and they will not cover it under 3rd year warranty because i had it serviced at my local independant (oil service) and i do not have the Fiat parts numbers for the filter and oil on receipt . The main dealer has so far failed to fix the problem , they had it running once but not again . So far these items have been checked as working ok -Timing , cam sensor , crank sensor ,fuel rail and pressure all wiring under bonnet and last i heard they were testing wiring back to ECU. Has anybody had a similar problem please , i have been reading forums everywhere trying to find some answers as it is getting very frustrating being without my work tool ( van) . I always thought this van too be a very good all rounder but after reading different posts not to sure now .I just want my van back i've got lots of work to do! Any ideas out there please , thanks a lot Jason Trevor .......

Hi

Had this fault code on a 130 motorhome changed cam and crank sensor problem was still there, trace fault to water running down into timing belt area and due to very cold weather conditions causing it to freeze. So when the engine was turned over the timing had jumped bringing on eml light. Fix was to fit a belt kit hope this helps you.(y)Ps as them if there is signs of water marks behind timing cover and tensioner.

Hi there, I have got a Ducato 130 multijet Motorhome with exactly the same problem. Had it at main dealer for a service mid December - drove it home and not started it until 2 days ago - First thing I found was that the oil level was low! contacted main dealer who stated that 9 litres of oil was booked to my vehicle by the metered pump - funny really when the sump only holds 6.3 litres!! (think mechanics are saving it up for jobs on the side) anyway topped oil up with correct grade and tried to start engine - It turned over no problems but would not fire, Also fault code logged as P0016 Crankshaft sensor fault. Will start sometimes with no problem at all but obviously I cant rely on it!! Would be interested to find out the outcome from yours as I have lost all confidence with my dealer . Thanks Scott.

Thought I would post my findings as no one would reply!! Having suspected that the cambelt may have jumped a tooth ( thanks to a previous reply to this post ) I have removed the cam belt cover and finally got the timing marks ( from Autodata ) and yes the timing is a good tooth out - due to the camshaft pulley being on a taper rather than a traditional keyway I have ordered the proper Timing pin kit ( sealey ) Will update when repair completed. Scott.

Sorry i have not been on here for years but yes the van was fixed under 3rd year dealer warranty and it seems the cambelt had jumped . Explination i got from dealer was that a bolt within the engine holding a pully to do with the timing had come undone and caused it to jump eg - put the timing out . When i picked up the van i did not hang around too long in case they gave me a bill ha ha , they said the fault must have occured when the engine had been built.....
