Hi everyone I have a 1999 1.9 td 5 speed motorhome on a medium wheelbase ducato.
I am now on a recon gearbox.
I have had the van just over a year and it has done less than 40k.
As soon as I got it it had to be repaired under warranty as the syncro mesh was gone on second gear.
This was done then a month later 4th went rattling and clanging on the way back from Scotland..
We then had a recon box fitted by the same firm who supposedly repaired the original box.
Its now a year later in fact just under.
On the way to Dover 4th suddenly started crunching we drove to Italy(I wanted to stay but the Mrs said no we are having a holiday) and back to Manchester.
Now its near impossible to get into second, third crunches and 4th crunches.
I have to go from 1st to third to 5th.
Total nightmare.
The company in tameside,Manchester who are a transmissions company, claim the warranty is only six months on a recon gearbox that has failed in less than 3000 miles less than a year when the recon box was fitted!!
We are now left with the option of having to get somone to remove the gear box so the said company can look at it.
We will have to pay for the repair.
We are seriously angry and dont really want to use this transmissons company in Tameside in Manchester.
We are also thinking about replacing the seriously under powered 1.9 td engine for a 2.8 td.
Any ideas of a ''reputable'' company that dont go by the name of the town their situated in who could provide an engine and gear box for a fair price?
Naturally we are stuffed as we have 4 years left to pay for the van on finance so we cant sell it and walk away even at a loss.
