Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with this one!

Water pump has failed on our 1989-90 Ducato 2.5 D (Fiat engine I believe)

We've got a new pump and most of the bits of the old one off but.. there looks to be a tubular section on the bottom of it which has what appears to be a shaft going in the direction of the cambelt tensioner? If this is what I suspect it is, how do I go about removing it?!

Thanks in advance!

Matt

hey Matt,

I am in a similar situation, I replaced the timing belt only to find the water pump shaft was very loose when putting back on the alternator belt. The shaft you mentioned is the tensioner for timing belt, it's mounted on the water pump (ye, I know :(). My idea is to somehow clamp the tensioner open (bearing in mind you need to take it out of the water pump so it needs to be a narrow clamp), take the old water pump out, put the new one in with the tensioner that is clamped somehow, and then release the clamp.

I don't yet know if this is possible, I really hope so cause it took me a day to do the timing belt.

Please let me know how it went for you.

Cheers!
