Hi everybody,

New problem if any body can help with this one ????

2005 fiat ducato maxi lwb, 2.8jtd (iveco engine 8140) 100k

The Mil lamp comes on if you ask the van to drive at reasonable speed, then it seems to go down on power till you reset the lamp.

Only problem is there is no fault code stored in the module for the reader to read ????

Any body had the same problem or know a cure for it ???

It was doing this before the turbo was changed so would not think its related to that, but if I recall it started to do it after service and fuel filter change ?

I do like my ducato buts its defo a full time job keeping it running !!!

Anybody got any ideas ????

PPS.... The Mil lamp sometimes stays on if you leave the van for day or so it then needs the code reader to put out, then sometimes it goes out on its own at start up .

A official Fiat dealer will be able to read all the codes especially the ones a generic code reader cant, diagnosis can also be done via examiner parameter, select and recorder functions.

I recommend Desira near you for this...tell them T from fiat forum sent you;)

Hello All
Had it code read and I think they said either po190 or po191 was the code, cannot remember for sure.
Any way they changer the sender thingy on top of the fuel rail and all seemed well till I went on a trip to kent, got as far as stansted from norwich , then the light came back on and van drives like a slug ?
Absolutly cainned the pants out of it and it kept running just with a top speed of 60 so managed to get home again.
Left van outside house had cuppa tea went back out to it, n yep guess right the light goes out !!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Any body got any ideas or wana buy a cheap van ????
Love the van but its now getting to that stage as not gona keep spending money out on it so any help or ideas will be great.

Help (y)

Hello,

Where is the fuel regulator located please ?, fuel filter changed about two months ago , but I do not use the van very much at all only maybe at the weekends and I must admit this problem all seems to have started after the filter change, as it did not do it before , or maybe its just a coinsidence.

Turned ign on off etc few times untill could not hear any air bubblin back in the tank before starting, so could there be something there I did wrong ?

I did change the whole filter assy not just the filter as I did read just the filter change could lead to problems !!!!.

Now the vans got a new trick it cuts out dead at no given time only at cruisin speed 70mph , If you coast to the side it will not re start until you leave it 30 seconds or so ??? then starts but runs on reduced revs around 3300 revs max.

Changed the fuel rail and new sensor but still no go, checked the plugs in engine bay , they all seemd ok all wires look good, the van runs ok all day at 60mph and up to 3000 revs but if you dare to push down on the throttle pedal to ask it to overtake, the engine light comes on ,it keeps running, but if you stop it to try n reset the light it will not start straight away as previously mentioned, it seems it needs 20 to 30 secs to do something.
Seems fuel related but no idea where to start as it seems these ducatos are dogged by simular problems ? to many electrics and gizmos.
Any help is most welcome .
Thanks

just looking at this academically this is all about the fuel filter ; have you double checked that the new part you purchased is 100% correct ?

did you fit the new filter into the new body ? has it been properly fitted ? do you still have the old assembly ?

personally I would just take off the whole filter assembly and start again !...maybe just fit a new filter into the old assembly and fit that
if you think about it lack of fuel flow seems to fit the symptoms ...will hardly get the correct pressure in the fuel rail if it doesn't get enough diesel !

Hi there mr lebesset,
I bought a complete fuel filter assy so it was just a case of unclippin pipes n poppin them back into the new unit.
Now the funny part, I bought the filter assy off ebay , its a gen fiat unit still sealed in the box so I wood av guessed it was new n un molested.
The seller requested van chassis number to confirm the fittment which they did ???, or did they, the unit was identical to the unit removed so I assumed it would be the same as the numbers on the sfilter case were the same too.
Now on ebay I see there is the later version for the ducatos which seem to have a green top mines a black unit,
Any body know if they are different at all or are they all the same, the part number I was sold is 1345983080 fiat pt number? should be for a 2005 2.8jtd.
As for the old assembly yes I do still have it but binned the element from it so that was my next thought to get a new insert n bung it back on and try it ?
Shame its already cost me for a new rail senser as diagnosed by the useless garage by code reader ?????
But reading the posts it seems that the ducatos are plagued with problems, all simular to this, its a real shame as I saw so many vans on the road that i thiught they were a good van, wish I found this website before buying one .
Oh well hopefully someone out here might have an answer to it .
All help is very helpful and appreciated.

a few threads down is a fuel filter change thread ; there you will find a link to an excellent step by step on this by free spirit

I suggest you start by just following that on what is currently fitted !

1 in 7 vans on the road in the world is a Fiat so they must be doing something right!

You just need to find a good tech at good garage to diagnose the fault, again I repeat what I stated earlier try Desira...is it not worth a few quid extra to get the van fixed.

Hi mr T,
As you previously said check fuel reg, ??? where is that please so I can check it ?
Can you tell me what the wires do it the top of the fuel filter housing ?, I assume the ones in the bottom are for water as they work a float switch ?
I did follow the fuel fitting thread as also mentioned by mr L above but I will refit the old filter and try that.
As for taking it to desira, I have heard a few bad things about them so was a little worried about taking it back to them, but I assume youre in the fiat trade so do you know a good contact there to try please ?
Yea van is good ol bus but there will be a limit to how much money its going to get spent on it as I just keep reading they do seem to suffer on leccy probs , I know there are lots of them on the road, thats why i went for one.
Just seems I got the one built on a friday afternoon !!! bless it.
Look forward to your help or reply,
Ps it also seems to do the cutting out thing the same as the other thread on the page, is this another issue or do you thinks its the problem ?

Hi all,
Well latest update, refitted old fuel filter ,bled system as thread states and still no good.
Engine light comes on under load / acceleration.
Now the interesting bit,,,,,,, when the light comes on if you stop the van and try to restart its a no go.
If you wait 30 secs it will start n run n engine light goes away, now the little bit that might be a cause???
When the vans turned off after light comes on the fuel pump in the tank is not running , if you keep turning on and off the ign you can hear a dull thud in the tank but fails to do the pressurerising thing in the tank ie (it does not do the run for 5 to 10 secs)
It seems that after 20 to 30 secs the pump will cut back in as you hear it start up n stop as normal in the tank then the enginge starts n runs as normall.
Is there a controller that controls the pump in the tank anywhere in the system I can change, I have swapped the relay in the front fuse box with no go so its not that. ?
Any ideas ?????
Please????

Hi all,
Well good news and a cheap fix n Jobs all done,
Problem was little bit of dirty jelly lumpy stuff wedged itself in the fuel pressure reg on the end of the high pressure pump.
Occasionally moving around inside and covering the hole inside thus causing fuel pressure drop and cutting out and putting mil lamp on......
Cleaned out the regulater and pump and away we go, no more light and all happy again.
Hope that might help someone else.
Thanks to all who gave good idesa.
Till the next time ciao.
