Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how often (miles/time) a fuel filter should be changed on the 2.0JTD 2003 Ducato. I have the Peugeot version, but its the same engine, mine even has the Ducato tags on it.
Regards
Stewart

I would change it at every service, about 6000mls if its a working van or every year if its a camper. Regular service is the life of the engine.

Hi,

Thanks for the info Peugeot simply say its either a A, B or C service and that the happen every 2 years on a rotational basis. Its a camper and has only doen 14000 but even so I always change oil and filter once a year. So this year it will be air and fuel.

Can anyone confirm whether its essential to actually remove the full unit from the van or simply unscrew the filter from the head unit.

Thanks
Stewart

Its way easier to remove the whole unit otherwise you could damage the water sensor at the bottom of the filter. Have tried it both ways, this is the best one for me. Have to add, mine is a 2003 2.8JTD

Diesel fuel filters do harbour bacteria over time.

Every year is probably more in order, given the high turnover and good quality of Diesel in this country!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies, the 2.0 version must have more clearance underneath than the 2.8 as after reading the excellent article from Freespirit I decided to give it a go. It came off very easily and refitted the same. I filled it as suggested in the article and followed his suggested start up routine and it fired up within seconds and ran perfectly.

So thanks guys and a big thank you to freespirit.

PS decided not to recycle the old fuel which came out of the filter as it didnt look to clean and refilled the filter with fresh clean fuel

The Ducato Service books says.
Change Fuel filter every 18K miles.
Drain condensate every 4500 miles or 6 months, depending on usage.

MY fiat handbook [ in french ] says

oil filter/oil / fuel filter every 20K Km
air filter every 40K

I am aware that the fully synthetic oil is fine at this as it lasts longer, but I prefer an annual oil change [ 10K for me ] so the semi synthetic [ also approved by fiat for the kilometrage ] is more than adequate [ and less expensive!] for the job :)

Thanks to all for posting this thread. Can any one tell me if there is a time schedule for fuel filter change. I have just had a full service on my motorhome and was told it did not need a fuel filter yet. It is six years old and has done 10,000 miles. To be honest the only reason I booked a full service was so that the fuel filter would be changed. It is still the original from new. I may just do it myself.

Cheers for any help,
Rob

Hi
I think changing it once a year regardless of the mileage done would be a good idea for reasons already stated previously by the other posters. That's the schedule I use for both changing the oil itself & the oil & fuel filters as the amount of mileage done per year isn't enough following Fiats schedules.
I go on the appearance for the air cleaner. Don't forget about the coolant & also changing the brake/clutch fluid every 2 years & also the gearbox oil & power steering fluid although fiat doesn't seem to mention changing these.
Cheers
