Hi Folks,
Has anyone any experience of plug and play tuning systems,do they do "exactly as is says on the tin" The one I am considering is Racechip. Any advice appreciated,

Regards,

put one on my 2.8 hdi peugeot boxer which is basically a fiat engine lots more torque not much change in top speed or fuel consumption tend not to change gear as much van used to rev at 2500 at 60mph now revs at 2000 at 60mph

Hi TEZ9381,

Thanks for the info. The performance that you got is what I was hoping for. Can you tell me what make of unit you fitted ? I wish to fit it on my 2.0JTD Camper van.

Thanks again,

Hi Globetrotter,
Have a look at
tuning-diesels(dot)com/Synergy1/tu3m.htm

Replace the (dot) with a full stop (They wont let me post a url as I haven't put in enough posts). Or Google "roverron"
I fitted one of their Synergy 1 units to my X-Type and the difference was amazing.
Have a good look through his site as there is lots of information to be had.

My motorhome is pre common rail, so is too old, otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to fit one to that too.

Hi, I had my 2.0 JTD remapped, which is the best solution. Done by Torquing BHP - solid job. My car has a spider tuning unit in, which is a halfway house between a fuel rail pressure raiser (tuning box) and a remap. The Spider unit can also be transferred between vehicles for a small charge if you send it back to be remapped and leads changed to fit. Pleased with both - but would go for a remap on any thing being kept for more than a year. Hope that helps

Hi Du:LOL:eluxe,

Hi,
I fitted a Racechip on my 2.8HDI Peugeot camper (8140-43S Iveco common Rail engine) and have now done about 5k miles on it including trips to France. Torque is up, and mpgs now 27 at 70mph. The major difference is not needing to change down on hills and also less strain on gearbox /clutch when reversing on gradients/ campsites. Camper weighs in at 4t when fully loaded so am very pleased with the 200euro package which can be installed in 10 minutes

I don't have one but worry about the possible negatives. The fifth gear on a 2.8JTD seems to be a weak point, and anything that increases the load or ability to overload it seems a BAD idea.

Any thoughts on this?

PeterM

The Uk versions of the 2.8JTD run 127PS, whereas in some european markets, they run 146ps power, with an uprated intercooler and altered boost settings on the turbo.

I wouldn't be too worried running up to about 150PS through it, as some of the 146ps ones would do so from standard. Gearboxes and running gear appear to be the same!

5th is a pretty tall ratio over 4th, so you would be putting a bit extra torque through the clutch through a remap or tuning box.

I have problems with the syncromesh changing into 4th gear on ours.

I would rather remap than a tuning box though......

Here in Oz there is not a great selection of these chips, I have a DPChip (similar to a Tunit) fitted & as yet have not fiddled with it as it is set to the 5 position as it comes from the supplier. It took about 10 minutes to fit & as soon as I got to the highway to stretch its legs I could feel the increase in power. As others have said it now climbs hills much easier & I am able to say in a higher gear for longer & it does not seem to have affected the fuel consumption or any visible smoke etc.
Although it has extra power I am aware of not loading the gearbox too much, mainly 5th as PeterM has said by changing down a gear to not overload the gearbox, but it certainly has more power. On the next trip I will set it to 6 to see what power increase is achieved & whether I get an increase in smoke/emissions/fuel consumption etc.

hi tez here been out in the camper for a month the chip in my van is from torque tec but if you fancy aweekend away there will be some traders at the lincon music festival organised by warner group in 2 weeks time

Sorry , without changing the gearing , that's simply not possible! Regardless how much or little power you have , its the gearbox determines the reltaionship between speed and RPM.

Red Lexus is quite correct, what you're suggesting is mechanically impossible.
Unless the device is physically affecting the pulse count to the tachometer

Had my 2.0jtd remapped, my main gripe was the pulling through 1st to 3rd gears, seems a big leap from 1st to second and quite tough on a hill start, told my remap per what I want and he custom built the map for me. It is a lot more car like to drive now and doesn't struggle and seems a lot less strained. One thing I will say is make sure the remapper is aware of the hdi engine setup and don't touch anybody that says they will change the boost control on a 2.0jtd as it is mechanical and not controlled directly from the ecu, it is also a very small turbo and non inter cooled so without modification they shouldn't be going more than about 115-120hp from it.
