General front fog lights

General front fog lights

I have a 2006 2.8jtd Ducato. Possibly the same as yours?

I have fitted front fog lights, but not the kind that fit in the mud guards for which there is provision on my Ducato. Instead, I have fitted a pair on a mini-bull bar on the front. One day may replace them with driving lights.

Anyway. I made a remarkable discovery: all the wiring, relay and switch gear is already installed in the 2.8jtd. Its just not enabled. This is what I did:

1. In each mud guard just behind the bumper bar there is a cable pair (purple, black) that is for the fog light. Wire these to the lights as you are able - I soldered wires in place and put connectors at the other end for the lights.
2. In the cab, the control panel below the radio has five switches. The second from the left side is meant to be for factory-fitted fog lights. Prise off the switch cover. You will see that the LEDs for night time and for fog lights on are there: the newly-installed fog lights will come on if you press the momentary contact switch near the bottom there while having both the ignition on and the parking lights on.
3. Take the switch cover and cut off with a sharp knife the four small tags at top and bottom that stop the cover from actuating the momentary contact switch.
4. Drill out the switch cover to make the green ON-LED visible (the slot depression at the top of the cover) and drill a pattern in the face of the cover for night time visibility.
5. Not essential, but a nice touch, is to find two compression springs ~2 mm diameter and 12 mm long. Put these in each side of the switch cover.
6. Press the switch cover back in position.
All done.

There is a 15 Amp fuse in the relay circuit, which should be plenty for most lights.
