Hk Guys,
For the past year I've had a 2001 2.8jtd outside my then fiancee, now wifes house that I bought as a non runner that refused to start. Well after my gearbox problems on my 2.8 asp I decided to give the 2.8 which I hadn't touched in 6 months another go. Swapped in a fresh battery and to my surprise for the first time ever it started and ran sweetly. I turned it off and now we are back to square one.
Now on to my question, the preheat light only comes on for about 2 seconds and goes straight out again, so jtd owners, how long does your preheat light come on for?
Regards and thanks,
Torq

Hi mate,

Mine only comes on for a few seconds and then goes out. Its if it starts flashing that you have a problem. I take it it starts ok?

Hope that helps,
Alan

Hi alan,
thanks for the reply, the light comes on for only about 2 seconds and then go's out, no flashing! (snigger snigger!) On my 2.5 non turbo it stays on for about 10 so I was wondering was the fault there. I've literally had the van start once in a year and that was last weekend and not since. I'm wondering what the 6 months since I last tried to start it did that would allow it to start?? I'm going to splash out on a new fuel filter to see if the problem could be there.

Anyone any suggestions?

Thanks,
Torq

Hi Guys,
didn't buy the filter but now every time I give the intake a squirt of easy start it fires up straight away!! The injection warning light is still on but at least it's running. Still haven't a clue why it starts now but I'm not complaining!! In case anyone asks, I used loads of easy start on it before but with no luck. Next week I'm going to change the start up valve and solenoid on the inlet manifold to see if that'll sort out the problem. On Sunday I picked up a complete 2002 2.8jtd engine for €400 so I can use it as a parts donor to sort the problem out.
Keep well,
Torq.

Hi
My mechanic told me you don’t have to wait for the pre heat light on the JTD just twist and go.
It’s different from the old diesels.
You only have trouble if it stays on.
