can anyone advise me of the benifits of having my ducato chiped i am dissapointed with the consumption on my ducato based burstner motorhome it is at present only returning about 19-21mpg

Most importantly (if a remap or chip is available) more torque! But it is said that mpg increases if you drive it economically - compared to pre-chip/remap.

Im pretty sure it'll make driving the motorhome alot more enjoyable for you ;)

Chip (Well not chip, but only a reflash of the chip with modified software through diagnose plug) brought me 4 litres pro 100km, a lot also, over more than 7000km now. The lame reaction on the gas is gone, and more torque is available. The engine is a 2.8 JTD, 107 kW. Only drawback at the moment is that on higher altitudes (ver 1000m) turbo makes noise like a jet engine, and yes also as loud as a jet.

This probably isn't a great deal of help, but, here goes anyway. On a trip to Italy last year I noticed in a copy of Camion Super Market a number of ads. for remaps for Ducato/Daily 2.8 jtd's. You could try looking at camionsupermarket.it Obviously being able to read Italian would be an advantage, but if you get desperate it might be worth a shot.

I can't believe how low your fuel consumption is although, I guess your Burstner is coachbuilt. Do you carry lots of extra gear in it which might increase the weight? Cruising at high speed with the aerodynamics of a brick is not good for fuel consumption either of course. Cruising at 50 or 60 is tedious but can make a huge difference. My converted Ducato 2.8 motorhome gets easily over 30mpg at "not hanging around" speeds although still in panel-van format. Check out http://www.angeltuning .co.uk/vehicle-options.as if your thinking of a remap (they don't change chips these days- man comes along with laptop to change firmware in the engine management unit). You get a massive torque increase as well as more BHP (about 170 I think on a 2.8). This makes driving much more leisurely and you dont need to clog it everywhere to get a reasonable performance. If you're fuel consumption is bad, usually your right boot is too heavy !!:D

Yup try an remap rather than a chip, easier applied and removed.
I have a 2.8 JTD Coach built and it too drinks fuel its nice to no i`m not the only one getting less than 20 mpg. Having it remapped will improve its performance no end But i would not recommend going for the full 160 BHP as you mite encouter clutch slip as the Torque is realy strong at low Revs, mine has only done 20.000mls and i have just fitted a new clutch because the last owner fried it obviously not used to driving large vehicles and liked sliping the clutch. I am still trying to find out why mine is so thirsty will let you no if i solve the problem.

If its the burstner 747 or 748 I would expect 19 to 21mpg as you are probably pulling 4.5ton around.

I have a Frankia tag axel MH so suffer similar MPG, I am also thinking of having it remapped.
