Hi Guys,
does anyone know where the diagnostic port is on the 2.8jtd 2001? I've looked everywhere and can't identify it!!
thanks.

Hi,
thanks for the reply but unfortunately my van is the mkII chassis which does not have the drivers side fuse box or the 16pin obdII connector. Any other suggestions, or even a picture!
regards and thanks.

Hi Guys,
found it! It's a 3 pin connector with only two wires and is under the bonnet near the ecu. Will post a pic of it and give details on how to connect to an elm327 interface. I've managed to get my laptop to talk to the ecu but the software I have is unlicenced so it won't tell me what the error codes are for the problem I have. I've downloaded some more freeware s/w and hopefully one of these will do the job, will let you know.
Keep well,
Torq

Sorry I didnt realise it was a 2001 model (even though you said:eek: ) I apologise.

What problem(s) are you getting with the van ?

Not to worry, the 2001 is a bit of a crossover model, mkII chassis but with mkIII interior. The van just won't start, the injection warning light comes on, flicks off momentarily after about 7 seconds and then stays on constantly. The tank pump runs for 10 secs as it should and there is diesel getting as far as the injectors, also the "code" light go's off as it should but the airbag light is on constantly. I'm hoping to pull the DTC P codes from the ecu this weekend to hopefully diagnose the problem.
Keep well,

HI, did you get anywhere with this?
I am also having simula problems but the fuse blows after a while. and then the keycode disables every thing.

do you have a wiring diagram for me?

cheers
Russ

Ok! found my problem!
some one has been trying to steal the thing and cut the wires open and then they touched.....
well thats east london for you. dont come here, ever. the olinpics will be fun. 200m with a telly on your shoulder or the mobile phone relay...

I have a problem with a 2001 2.8 JTD.

Two seperate diesel specialists have been unable to communicate with the ECU (one used three different readers), and the Fiat main dealer hasn't been a main dealer for long and so hasn't got the older diagnostic equipment.

From other posts it looks as though 'failure to communicate' could point to an ECU problem, but from eBay it looks as though elm327 cables and laptop software are easily and cheaply available so I thought I would check out getting my own diagnostic kit for future use.

The problem is as follows; after driving for a short time the fuel injection warning light comes on at low revs and low throttle openings.

For a while the light cleared with a bit extra throttle and revs but the problem is getting progressively worse and now the Van ('A line' camper on Fiat Ducato/Alko chassis) is virtually undriveable.

The Fiat main dealer is trying to get hold of some diagnostic equipment but not doing too well, and may have to send the vehicle to another branch. This should be interesting for them unless they send it on the back of a truck!

From reading so far the likely culprits seem to be the ECU and/or the throttle sensor.

BTW my favourite diesel specialist only charges £25 to read codes, but then they are a small garage and pretty good guys all round.

Quick update: the garage had Fiat Technical Services in to help, who said immediately "Of course your computer can read the codes! Looks like you don't have the adapter in your kit."

Code returned related to throttle sensor.

They traced the wiring and found a corroded connector which they cleaned.

They told me it was fixed, but when I went to pick it up the light was on all the time.

They are looking at it again (I wonder if they just forgot to clear the codes??).

Trawling through again and saw I hadn't updated the thread.

The second fault was an exhaust sensor - once changed the fault light cleared and the engine has been O.K. since (thankfully).

Cheers
