I recently took my 54 Doblo for it's 20k service, and the rear Bump missing, On asking they said they don't replace them , was this because it had just gone into the dealer warranty ?? How important is this bump stop ??

Hello there and firstly welcome to the forum (y)

The bump stops are important as when you are carrying a load and the suspension flexes they stop the suspension flexing too much. It's rare that the suspension will hit the bump stop, unless you carry a very heavy load and go over a speed bump too fast for example, but damage to the leaf spring can occur if the bump stop isn't there to stop it so I'm lead to beleive.

After all, they aren't there to look pretty are they :p as for 3rd year warranty, then not a lot is replaced or repaired under warranty. However if it was there before the Doblo went in then you could complain to Fiat that it's now mysteriously gone! :)

I cant understand why you guys moan about fiat third year warranty, today I have replaced a gearbox, clutch, power steering unit, spring bushes, suspension rods, and an instrument cluster. All these were replaced under third year warranty. So please make sure you actually know what you are talking about before posting.

I'm eff'd off about the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. Their starting position always seems to be 'we're not paying'. The one time I asked for a warranty fix they rejected the claim due to 'too high a mileage'. The van was under 2 years old. Unlimited mileage means something different to them. My step son is about to buy a Doblo sized van - guess what manufacturer is a very very very long way down the list? At the bottom of it actually. (Good van + crap back up = not worth considering).

In that case there were one of the very lucky ones...

*Post Edited as I read it wrong* :p but still no need to insult our intelligence! We do know what we are talking about but for our situations and the forum is a place to share and discuss them!

I think NumanR was refering to fact he knows how 3rd year warranty works inside out wethers others here dont...I admit 3rd year warranty can be confusing to the public as there are so many 'deciding' factors but the main thing is servicing must be done on time/mileage,not a day goes past where 3rd year warranty is refused due to incorrect servicing by the customer/owner.

No they are not the lucky ones, they are the ones that have done what Fiat have asked them to do, regarding servicing. I would say 75% of third year faults are covered by warranty. Checks, lubes, wiring, trim, fair wear and tear are not.
Problems occur when servicing is not done, or done late, transfers are not completed when vehicles sold to second user etc.
I would recommend anyone to keep the warranty valid, or to revalidate it if possible, I would not dismiss it "as for 3rd year warranty, then not a lot is replaced or repaired under warranty." And I think for a moderator to do this is way out of line.

I am only going by my experiences and what I have read on others... as I said we all have a right to voice our opinion here. You seem like a professional, so you know about this stuff... I am just commenting on the trouble I've had with Fiat 3rd year warranty... and even after doing everything correctly I've had to fight to have any work done under warranty and most garages - at least round here anyway - stay away from 3rd year warranty stuff!

Moderator or not - I'm still entitled to my views on the forum!

If I may add a few more points....

Conversation last thursday with warranty manager...
"can you put this down the line 3rd year for body computer,£337 all in"
"got service book there"?
"yep here you go,dont recognise the garage that done the second service though"
"they are not VAT registered & use aftermarket parts,I have came across them before but i'll check & get them to fax through service invoice"

45minutes later the customer was phoned & duly informed that the garage is not VAT registered & 3rd year warranty was rejected.

Result....one unhappy customer who givesd us abuse on phone.

Outcome...claim rejected,customers fault!

Conversation this morning...

"Can you put this claim down the line for ECU,£420 all in"
"lets have a look at service book....2nd service 7 months late...forget it!"

Result...customer abusive saying going to write to Fiat etc etc...

Outcome...customers fault & now £420 out of pocket!

Above is 2 reasons to not forget/dismiss 3rd year warranty, these are not isolated cases but are constant.I reckon 3/4 every week at least!

I know some people here have had problems (Niall for example) & 3rd year is different on vans but why for the sake of a few extra quid not get a proper second service to keep 3rd year warranty valid?
Its ok to say others here have had problems with 3rd year warranty rejection but are they giving the whole story or just their side of the story? I know for a fact some are not!
Chances are you will need it...after all why buy breakdown insurance, house insurance, central heating cover(which is subject to a yearly maintence service),which all have exclusions! Shall we all just not bother with them aswell?.....I did & ended up with a £500 heating repair bill.

Hi T14086, How are vans different?
I have a Punto van. Also ( academic interest only) could you please tell me if the fuel injection (high/low pressure pump/injectors) are covered by the third year warranty?
Thanks.

Passenger vehicles have for third year a 60,000 mile limit and covers most components excluding trim, wear and tear, wiring.
Commercial vehicles have a 100,000 mile power train warranty which covers main engine components and gearbox and driveshafts.

As for experience with extended warranty, I have ten years of experience with fiat warranty, every day of my working week. Normally, like Ian says, the fault for invalidation is with the customer, either by not servicing the vehicle at a vat registered garage, or by getting the service carried out too late. This is not fiats fault, its not the dealers fault, and when a customer realises that their bill is not going to be paid they MAY come on a forum like this, trying to gather evidence to support their case. And they MAY moan about Fiat warranty, in fact they MAY say its worthless.

But for every person who has had a claim turned down there are 20 who have had a claim paid for under warranty.

Thanks, Yes I have no illusions about the situations faced by main dealers in dealing with some of the general car buying public.
Some of the situations I read on here absolutely astound me. People are considering pouring cooking oil into the new Grande Punto multijet.......
Sorry for the digression from topic, thanks for answering my question.

I'd just like to point out that the views I were expressing were not for those who don't keep up with servicing or use a different garage or anything like that... but for those of us who did everything by the book and still have problems. I also realise that it's not the dealers fault, or the mechanics and as such have never complained to them but only to Fiat who have never even bothered to reply. I'd also like to point out that I'm not complaining here now (although you probably think it sounds like :p) just sharing my experience with the rest of us here on the forum.

From personal experience I know that Ford's 3rd year warranty is a little better than Fiats in terms of coverage... and as they say, when something bad happens people will tell everyone, when something good happens people will only tell a few - 100% the case with Niall!

I think there are still a few people who don't know how bad I think the fiat warranty is, but they will get back from holiday soon so I'll tell them then :p :p
