Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Sunday night, left my dauhters and noticed that the headlamp flasher was slow in reacting. Got onto a nice dark dual carriageway, switched to main beam - nothing!!
Rang the dealer at 10am yesterday and arranged to be in for 8.30 today. Sods Law struck and last night the main beams worked, although they were slow switching.
Took it in anyway, they have checked the system - no fault found - BUT they have changed the relay and advised me that if I have further probelsm I am to ring and they will order a new column switch and then arrange to fit it.

Not bad?

Who? Glyn Hopkin, Buckhurst Hill, Essex (really sort of NE London)

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Its always nice to hear of a good dealer.

They seem to be in the minority these days so when you find a good one cherrish them, support them, tell others.

I'm always happy to pay a little more for good quality work. Cheapest is very rarely the same as best value.

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Oh Well!! On to stage 2!!
Wife took her mother shopping, came back and told me that the little number at the bottom of the dash, which tells you the alignmant of dipped beams, kept flashing at her.
Switched on lights, no main beam, dipped beam OK, main beam came back!
Then had an 80 mile drive home, 60% on unlit roads. Main beamd seem OK, although dipped don't always go off when main on, and the little light has been flashing away all the time!

I'll let you know how dealer visit 2 goes!!

I'm fairly sure that dip beam stays on when main beam is selected.

Hope your dealer gets to the bottom of it this time, although an intermitant fault can be a real sod to find. All they can do is go with what is most likley and replace that.

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Yes, the dipped beam stays on even when the main beam is flashed/switched on... The only time you find the dipped beams go off when main beam is selected is in H4 bulbs, where the two filaments are in the same bulb - this is to prevent overheating. Doblo's use H1 and H7 lamps, and so the main and dipped beams are seperate.

The flashing of the "Headlamp Height Adjustment" usually means that they are out of sync. Usually dropping them right down and back up again does the trick. When it was in the garage they might have knocked the motor slightly whilst checking the wiring and so put it out. If they knocked it right out of alignment of course it'll have to be put back properly.

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Niall,

I agree - and so do they. Last time they replaced the headlamp relay and the agreement is that this time I will call them and they will get a switch in and replace when Imgo in. However I am beginning to think body computer?

Ozzie,

I accept your explanation of the Headlamp Height Adjustment, but is it not a bt of a co-incidence that the flashing started when the main beams were failing to come on?

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Yes it does seem a bit strange - however seen as the headlight adjustment is not on the stalk, perhaps it isn't the stalk that's the problem, and as you said it could be something else like the body computer. I hope it's not though and you get it sorted

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Well, took the direct appraoch and dropped in. They are adamant that it cannot be the Body Computer, despite the fact that the dash display is involved as well. According the them the dipped beams should go out when the Mains come on.

They are sticking to a faulty switch, which will be oredered in tiem to be fitted on Friday......

I replaced a blown dip beam bulb on Mrs_G's Cargo this morning.

I checked, with main beam on, dip beam is also on. Of course it might be different on other versions of the Doblo but it seems unlikley.

Mrs_G's is a 2004 Doblo Cargo JTS sx a/c.

Hope the switch sorts your problem.

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

Interesting that Ozzie, who drives a car and Niall, who drives a van, both agree that main and dip will be on together. Yet Mr Expert, who probably doesn't even drive a Fiat - disagrees.

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

If I were you I'd take a print out of this page to show them, so that they don't waste hours with your car trying to get the dipped beams to go off when they switch the main beams on...

What year is your Doblo? Both mine and Niall's are the 2004 on versions before the facelift model.

Re: Perhaps I can recommend a dealer.

So yours will be the same as ours then. The person you spoke to obviously hasn't worked on many Doblo's then
