Re: Common Problems + Solutions - Your Input Please :)

Good idea I was thinking today that this forum could be the best workshop manual to diagnose any problems. I have certainly picked up a lot of tips from it.
Only thing I cant find is a new JTD estate for 7000 quid.:p

Re: Common Problems + Solutions - Your Input Please :)

Probably because they don't make the JTD no more ;) only joking!

You tried JamJar and FiatSupaSaver.com?

Hey you got a great idea there, we can have the best places to buy a Doblo included in it too - sort of a guide to the Doblo, buying, maintaining and running :D

Great idea Ozzie, the one problem that really annoys me is the continuing loss of plastic sliding door guides from the door jamb it's not helped by heavy handed passengers just about everyone has trouble closing shutting the rear doors  I have had the doors realigned and still these things pop out at every opportunity I have glued the latest one in so far so good.

Ozzie,

I think this is a great idea. I have maintained my Doblo myself, regardless of the fact that the warranty is invalidated. I'm just reckless like that!

So far in nearly 40,000 miles in 2 1/2 years the only problem I have had is with the EGR. I fixed this myself.

One reason I brought the Doblo was because it is an essentially simple car and home maintenance should be possible. The frustration now is the lack of basic pointers when repairing and maintaining the car. At the moment the Doblo population is still relatively young with many vehicles still under "warranty". As time goes by this will change and owners will be more interested in maintaining and repairing without support from FIAT. They will need a little help, I think.

My top tip is to cut a hole in the engine undertray so that you can access the oil filter without taking the tray off. This halves the time taken to change the oil and replace the filter. I made up a small aluminium plate which is secured over the hole with with four 6mm stainless screws.

Let us all know what support you would like with this idea. I am sure there are plenty of people who will contribute

Ok everyone, thinking of compliling a list of common problems and solutions so that users coming to the Doblo section can just take a glance in the thread stickied at the top of the section to see if they're problems listed there before they post another thread on it. The idea is just to make life a little easier for people visiting the section :)

So basically I'm after some ideas from you lot ;) I've already got the idea of the squeaky rear suspension, the EGR valve problem... but I'd like you all to have an input on it and of course any suggestions you will get credited for :)

Cheers all, Oz

Credits.... Does that mean we get paid ? or will be a star sytsem , do we keep the star for a week ? and rec a certificate... to be serious, prob a good idea, thats the first time i've ever been serious in the forum!!!!!!!!

Ozzie

Damn fine idea!

Watch those wires near the rear seat latches in the Family when taking the seats out. They control the sensor that beeps when you try to drive with the rear seats in and the middle seats up. Pull the wires out and the bl**ding thing beeps whenever the middle seats are up. :bang: :bang: :bang:

First of all thanks to you all for your replies...

I was originally looking for just a list of common problems and their solutions, and also some 'top tips' from other owners to put in a post at the top of the forum for new/existing users to look at should they have a problem - but it seems that it could be so much more! A guide to the Doblo in fact ;)

I think the best thing would be for me to complile this list of common problems and top tips first just to get something going and then I can keep adding to it should people have any new problems.

On top of this - in the future - I could have a go at creating some sort of CD/Website/Word Document with guides on how to carry out certain procedures etc. along with the common problems once enough information has been gathered.

Oh and by credits I meant you'll get a "This was submitted by: ...." ;)

Once again cheers for the support everyone! It's nice to see we have such nice people here in the Doblo section :)

Any idea where i can get hold of an Owners manual or service schedule or just any technical, labour or part info. Am willing to pay for this info need it for a cost of ownership project.

You should find a service schedule in the service book that came in the big packet of books with your car. If you're looking for costings on services etc. you'd have to contact Fiat.

Is this project for yourself?

I've just replaced the passenger side dipped beam headlight. Relatively easy, but a little tight for ham handed types like me. However one little warning - the light cluster is protected by a cover that is held on by clips - these clips come away from their mounts very easily. If you aren't careful they'll end up at the bottom of the engine well - completely out of reach.

Totally agree, did it myself when I did my light conversion... a long extending magnetic pick-up tool and lots of swearing comes in handy...

If you are clumsy, take the undertray off first and save yourself the hassle ;)

SNAP!

Had the same problem. Luckily I had recently bought a pair of spare new headlights (£5 each, new still in the fiat boxes) on ebay so I used a clip of one of them.

Ok now times should be getting a little bit quieter over the summer, I'm thinking again of making that site with the known problems etc. which is what this thread was all about. So if you do have any suggestions then great, if not I'll hopefully have the site up in a month - it should also encourage more people to join the forum then too.

Hi everybody, just bought a 'preloved' 06 doblo dynamic ing grey (although I'd swear it was silver!) & came here via a search for towbars!
I asked on the other thread but might as well mention it whilst here, some towbar suppliers mention electric kits that simply plug into a socket already provided by manufacturers (not specifically mentioning the Doblo), anyone kno0w if the Doblo has one of these sockets?

Anyone had any dealings with the service disks knocked out on ebay?

CD/Radio. It has this annoying habit of always turning on at really low volume & increasing the volume isn't always convenient - is this just a problem with mine or is this a quirk of the pre-installed equipment - if so, how easy is it to wire in a new player?

One last thing.
The salesman kept calling it a Do-blo (posh southerner), I think it's called Dob-lo (rough Yorkshireman). Any thoughts on pronunciation?

Just found this thread.

Lights. My dealer changed the bulb for me, for free. I had tried doing it myself but gave up because I was on the verge of killing someone and the prisons are full.

Radio. Mine's an '03 with a cassette deck. Same irritation that it turns on too low and had to be boosted - but really - can't we all live with that?

Oh, and it's Dob'lo. The 'posh' southerner is a t**t.

Might whip it out & put in something newer, some nice sets on ebay that accept SD cards, USB keys and MP3 tracks on CD (not sure if the plug on the wiring will be compatable)

It will be, all you need to replace the stereo is an aerial adaptor. £4 in Halfrauds. If you're putting in a fancy one that's quite big you'll also have to take the dash apart to get it to fit ;)

Hi

I've just bought a Doblo Cargo 1.9 SX Diesel 2002.

I have no Owners Manual & no workshop manual (although I've order the later on disc from ebay (fingers crossed))

There are a few things that my new van does or does not do, that i'm not sure if it's correct or not, please advise.

A. should the central locking unlock all 5 doors ?
B. My diesal tank cap does'nt seem to be lockable, should it be held shut by a solenoid ?
c. on the dash mileage counter i have a little pic of a light and a 0 beside it, any ideas ?
D. I put a new CD radio in, but it does'nt hold the settings, so i have to re-tune the station every time I turn the engine off. ?
E. can I get a diagnostic reader for the van, there seems to be a plug in point at the internal fuse board.
F. I have a fault, that is draining the battery overnight, I'm currently trying to find out what is causing it by a process of ellimination & a multi meter, but if anyone else had experianced such a problem, please tell what caused your trouble, as you never know it may be a common defect.
G. If anyone has a wiring diagram they could share with me, it would be a massive help. if on file you could email it to [email protected].

Thanks for your help, when I've cured all my problems and know more about the van, I hope to return some favours.
