General 1.9 JTD owners: do you have the 105 or the 120 model?

Our 120 arrived today and in a rush of paranoia on the drive home I was worried that it wasn't as fast and didn't handle as well as I remembered, then I glanced down at the speedo... :D

I guess I'll want until I'm acclimatised properly before I get an itchy wallet for a remap. This one certainly goes well, and I was being very gentle on it's first run :) In fact it by the end of the trip it seemed sharper and faster than the 105 but there's so little difference on paper it must have just been new car euphoria

Delicious!

Wonderful colour. Congrats(y)

Now, I'd like to see that drab sand colour they do in the metal too! Please someone buy one!

Oh, Last weekend I did a Norwich - Kent return trip, and quite a lot of it was going , er, quickly:rolleyes: I seem to have got 49mpg. Three-up I reckon that's not bad. Motorway nearly all the way, and only slow at Dartford.

Was that a 'brim to brim' test or the mpg reported by the onboard display?

.

Dashboard display.

However, I set out with a nearly full tank and got back with over a quarter left. I did about 385 miles and calculate that I'd have gotten a safe 500 out of a whole tank. The exact reading was 49.8, but I read somewhere that the display overestimates by about 10%. I'm not so sure, but even 44mpg wouldn't have been bad and the latest models are supposed to have improved consumption by a factor of 10%. Anyway, a good run and pretty decent consumption; and as I said, I was going quite quickly, quite quickly indeed, for a lot of the journey, certainly on the M20;)

How do you know you had a quarter left? If you didn't actually measure it you can't be sure how much you used with any degree of certainty.

Fuel gauges are notoriously inaccurate. I know of one vehicle that can do 150 miles before the needle moves from full. My own van has a very non linear fuel gauge. The last quarter shown on the gauge is only good for 40 miles, the first 3 quarters are each good for about 100 miles.

As stated in the past the only way to get an accurate mpg figure is to measure how much fuel was used to cover a known disance - ie. Fill up, drive a significant distance, fill up again preferably at the original petrol pump so that the car/fueltank is on the same level.

MPG is then calulated as miles/litres*4.546

Any estimate of mpg that doesn't actually measure the fuel used needs to be taken with a HUGE pinch of salt.

Yes, true enough.

I'll bother to check out the mileage properly one of these weeks and see what happens. Has anyone ever calibrated the digital readout for accuracy by the way?

No but recently I've been getting an easy 500mile a tank using Esso fuel :) (used to get 450 on Sainsburys and 400 on Asda) at that's not with me driving sensibly as I've had a tight schedule the past week or so ;)

The Esso station I use is located on an Asda site, so they have alyways dropped their prices to the same as Asda compared to other Esso stations. I also find that it's generally better fuel, don't know if it's just physcologial but the car feels smoother running on Esso fuel :)

I always use Shell, as there is a filling station just around the corner, and it has a carwash! I once put in Sainsbury's stuff and this seemed very quiet and perfectly decent. I have no idea of the mileage it gave?

I really do believe I can, and have, had 500 miles from a tankful. Most of my work is in town, which gives a false reading overall; indeed, I sometimes go down (according to the digimeter) to the high 30s. This is only to be expected though and perfecltly in line with the official figures. No; I was only mentioning the good consumption as it was at speed and three up - pretty much the weight they use for the test calibrations - and I reckon the car comes pretty much up to spec. I am pleased with it. Once I really did get 500++ from a tankful, but that included two weeks of gentle crawling around Norfolk in the 40s, 50s and very low 60s, one up. Not a fair test.

I have a 120 doblo family from 2006 with 152,000km on the clock.

Motor is pretty powerful which is handy for going up hills or travelling with 7 people in the car or lots of luggage.

Fuel economy is reasonable though not as good as I was hoping (I do mainly urban driving)

i've got a 2006 1.9 105 which i think is great. I've also remapped it with gains of roughly 30bhp & 60nm torque. It also usually averages 49mpg according to the computer which is a 4-5mpg increase over before it was remapped.

Although it has dropped to 47mpg this weekend as i was rushing about yesterday from job to job as i was running late & had a birthday party to go to. But most of the time i'm pretty steady away in it so it does great on fuel

I'm also glad it doesn't have the diesel particulate filter cos they're a PITA! Although as i do remapping as part of my business i'd just do DPF removal anyway.

I've only had the van since Nov last year & have done about 12k in it, totally trouble free & i don't mind driving it at all. When i set up my business i was dreading buying a van as i've always had sports type cars such as Evo's, Subaru's, 3.0 V6 Alfa GTV etc then when i went onto diesels for work i had a 3.0 V6 Vectra SRi which all of these handled well & pulled really well so thought having a van would be a nightmare, but it isn't (y)

Anyways, i've already decided that when i do decide to get a newer van the 1st 1 i'll look at is the new Doblo as i really like the look of it

Can't disagree. The new Doblo is a fine car, but rather large, and very expensive. Pity.

I like the convenence of the Doblo but I am going to look at the Dacia Duster when it arrives soon. It looks to give me very simlar performance to my present car, plus better economy and pretty much the same kit.

I like sitting high and I like a comfortable ride. The increased ground clearance would be a real bonus too as I have to contend with truly awful roads. If i could get the same spec as I have now for c. £11,500 or less - and I will be able to - I'd be happy. I'd miss the low loading height, but not the large tailgate, but then I don't need to carry heavy items for work. I love Fiat's get-you-home lights too, and the fact that the lights go off with the ignition. But my car is starting to cost money...

I can't make up my mind at the moment...
