Technical Cambelt Change

Technical Cambelt Change

Take a look in the service book, it tells you when you need to do certain things. I thought that Cam belt was on the 4 year service but maybe I was wrong. Haven't got my book at the moment so can't have a look sorry :(

Speaking as someone who's had one break I would say change it! Mine on the Ford Courier 1.8 diesel should have been changed every 30,000 miles but as far as I know (assuming it was it's original belt) mine failed at about 60,000 miles and about 6 years.

Having read your reply has just reminded me the cambelt needs changing. Knowing Fiats reliability I had better not leave it to long.

I believe the cambelt should be changed every 72,000 miles on the 1.9 JTD.

I'm not sure about the time interval for low annual mileage vehicles as Mrs_G's Doblo gets a new cambelt every nine or ten months.

If I remember correctly the 3rd year 60000 mile service (which I'm due next year) is a big one and I think that they will change the belt then, along with filters, oil, etc etc

I checked when I bought mine, and Niall is right - 72,000 for the 1.9 JTD.

I'd get it done early rather than late, and willl prob book mine for it sometime shortly after 60,000 miles- afterall, its an engine killer, and the new one will last the same again.

I wouldn't change it that early - if its meant to be 72,000 I'd do it before 72,000 rather than after (unless Fiat recommend a time limit too), but by the same token you don't want the covers on and off the engine more than necessary - its all wear and tear and an opportunity for mechanical ****wittery by the garage.
