Well I will say I've been a little dissappointed with the MPG on my Doblo since I've had it, well I can't complain I'm getting 400mile to a tank and about 37 MPG mainly town driving. I filled up the other week from Sainsburys as they were the cheapest in my area (I use www.petrolprices.com) and I noticed that my fuel seemed to last a bit longer but didn't think anything of it, didn't check mileage and so forth.

A week ago I filled up with Sainsburys fuel, and I've done 400 miles still with a quarter of a tank left! The MPG trip (not accurate I know) is also showing 52MPG which it has never gone over about 42MPG before. So my plan is to carry a Jerry can (just in case) and run the Doblo right down until the trip says I have 0 miles left to go in the tank (currently showing another 200 or so ).

I will let you know how I get on ;) not sure if this Sainsburys thing is a bit of a coninsidence but I shall try another place when I run out and see what happens :) anyone got any ideas for this?

Ozzie,

Welcome to the foru....... Oh sorry, ....;)

I'm not sure if I'd run the tank down that far. On previous diesel vehicles I've owned the hassle in priming the system and getting the engine restarted was a right pain when it ran out of fuel. the Doblo may self-prime but I think the fuel also lubricates the fuel pump - not the sort of thing to risk on a modern diesel.

I'd suggest running the car until the fuel light comes on, refill with Sainsburys fuel and repeat. After 3 tanks the non Sainsburys fuel will have been diluted to such an extent as to be insignificant.

A year or so ago I did a similar test with BP Ultimate diesel in my Iveco. I used it exclusively for nearly 2000 miles and noted no improvement in mpg. It may have been cleaning my fuel system but I have no evidence of that.

A few years ago I noted Optimax petrol gave an extra 20 mile tank range in my Mondeo Si which went most of the way to covering the extra cost.

Do your test and ...... as you'd say....

Let us know how you get on :p :p :D :D

LOL! I feel I may never live this down :D

Yeah I suppose your right, my mates a mechanic and he says there is some sort of safety built into the "mileage you have left" on the trip so that when you do get to 0 you actually do still have a few miles to go and providing I turn it off if it starts running rough when I get near or on 0 I shouldn't have any trouble starting it back up.

We shall see and yes I shall let you know how I get on :D

P.S.: Doblo, where do you obtain this fuel from?

G'day,

I've been running the ole girl on a mix of 50% aussietrol diesel, 40% veggiemite oil extract and 10% sheep wool oil. It stinks like three day old road kill but is cheap. Hell, with the money I save I can keep the wife in crocodile skin knickers all year!

My mate recons I could use more sheep wool oil but I think 10% is fine - I get bored sqeezing it out of them

RT.

Well I managed to get to 500 miles when the trip read I only had 30 miles left, and due to the fact I had to take a trip somewhere sharpish that was about 30 miles I didn't want to risk it. I filled up with Asda fuel and I'm now on just above empty with 375 miles on the clock so I think that the Sainsburys fuel does give me that little bit extra!

Who knows :)
