...lurking behind my stereo!
Can anyone shed any light as to what it is for?
It is not connected to the stereo - which I think must be an after-market one and the lead coming out of it goes somewhere down and to the left.

I saw something similar many years ago at our family garage. The person concerned wanted to make something metallic stick to the top of the dash but didn't want to drill or glue the surface and damage the dash top.

Maybe Your car used to belong to a shop lifter , they use the magnets to release security tags from high value items stolen from shops, clothes , alcohol etc

That seems most likely, but why with a cable? I'll try and find where it ends!

Aerials usually have leads & a connector on other end, found it yet ?

I traced the cable back to this box of tricks which looks like a GPRS Tracker. My van must have had this Trakm8 fitted in an earlier life. I can't believe how many cables come out of the box there must be over a dozen. I've disconnected the antenna (huge magnet) and think I'll just leave the box + gubbins where I found them.
You never know what's lurking...!
