hello.i am a new member so let me firstly say hello to everyone.my fiat doblo has been an excellent runner since i bought it secondhand 4 years ago but just recently a knocking noise can be heard from the front end of the car when going over uneven surfaces ie a rough road surface.tyre wear is normal, there is no shaking of the steering wheel at speed and steering is light and true as always.someone has suggested it may be a ball joint.how can i inspect/check this and where will i find it.i have to rely on the local garage for repairs as i am not very mechanically minded.thank you paul

Hi . This is very similar to a noise that I had on my doblo van and it turned out to be the bottom ball joint being worn. Local garage changed the wishbone and now the wee van is quiet again. Hope you get sorted out quickly ?

Hi,

Had the same problem. It was the track rod end ball joint that needed replacing.

I discovered this when checking the car before its last MOT.

Jack the car up, grab the wheel at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and shake it side to side. If it rattles or you can feel some play then my guess is that the ball joint is worn and the track rod end needs replacing.

Have look at this: http://www.wikihow.com/Replace-Tie-Rod-Ends

Cheers

More likely to be the lower swivel ball joint with the faff of changing the joint it is easier to replace the lower wishbone assembly then you get new ball & bushes not an expensive part

You may not find by the 6\12 method as joint has a preload
