Hi

I have a 2007 1.3d multijet, only done 75k and serviced regularly.

but its now f**ked!

I was driving it last week when I got DPF filter clogged, then engine oil deteriated, then a couple of days later engine failue.

With engine failure also came some sort of limp mode making the car so slow its unable to be used and only starts ater about a million attempts.

So I took it to Tyre Web (as its was my closest garage)
They replaced fuel filter and ran diagnostics, they also removed dpf and said they had it running so it was defo the dpf that needed replacing....£800!!!

I did what anyone would do and told them they must be on crack if they think im paying £800 for them to fix a piece of exhaust!

So I took it to an independant garage, bought the dpf from euro car part for £120 and had the guy fit it for £80, £200 spent and the car is fixed right?...WRONG!!

its exactly the same as it was! and the guy at the garage says he hasnt got a clue :bang:

He has done a fault code reader on it and came up with only one code
"Engine oil Deteriorated" P253F
It also tells me that on the dash along with engine failure.

Man arent I glad i didnt shell out £800!

When the DPF was changed i didnt get new sensors fitted (£75 each, there are 2...), could that be the problem?

Im hoping I dont have to spend a fortune fixing it, and if its going to be a case of "well it COULD be this or COULD be that" and just replacing parts in the hope it fixes it. Id rather just sell it as it is than waste my money.

Any ideas? Hopefully one of you will say "aaah yes, this old problem, happens all the time, cheap easy fix!":)

Welcome to the forum, I wish more people joined under happy circumstances but such is the nature of forums I suppose :)

Anyway, a lot of the car's systems rely heavily on a stable electrical supply. A dodgy earth or failing battery has been known to cause a myriad of faults to appear on otherwise healthy vehicles. My first step would be to get the battery and charging circuits checked - you can do this with a multimeter, secondly I'd be looking at the earthing points to make sure they're not heavily corroded and are providing an adequate circuit.

Hi, :)
common issue -
when they change the oil , they are supposed to reset TWO things, Service light / indicator , AND the Oil Degradation Index
and often only do 1:tosser:

there is a counter that monitors the state of the oil ,
when the engine does a REGEN it essentially dumps diesel into the oil - bad news.. so it counts these..,

IF it's not reset , then the electronics get in a state.., :nono:

You need to change the oil and filter, make sure the oil is low ash and very good quality.! The oil level should be between the max and min on the dipstick. Not on max.!
Using a diagnostic computer reset the service indicator, reset the oil degradation counter and tell the engine management system the dpf has been replaced. Clear any fault codes.
