Got a bloke not far from me has a REALLY clean and tidy 1.9D on a 2001 plate - but it doesn't start - BUT it will run on a squirt of Easy Start... :D

I think I can get it for 200€ (it has a short TuV - the German MOT) but I want it mainly as a donor vehicle as the interior clean as a whistle and stuff like the back door is clean whereas mine is rubbish :(

So I figure... get it going, swap bits over - punt it out... :D

He's changed the fuel filter - but he needs to get rid of it.

Sounds to me like it's either the pump, or the crank sensor..??

Any thoughts?

Its either no fuel. Or fuel at the wrong time.

Too early for proper OBD.. but nonturbo..

So not stupidly complex

Bosch or lucas pump??

sounds like air in the system, do these have a lift pump?

so after starting on easy start does it run, what does it sound like?

has he changed the filter properly and for the right one?

these are all good questions, but I'm playing the poor bloke along at the moment as I haven't got time to actually go and look at it... and I don't want to go over there (it's about a 20 minute drive) and start the bl00dy thing for him - I just want to be *fairly* sure what I'm buying before I suck my teeth, tell him it's gone to Doblo heaven and offer him something daft for it :D

I've had similar symptoms with a Vectra of a friend - that also had a Lucas pump, and that turned out to the crank sensor... so if I'm into 20€ I'm laughing... if I'm into sourcing a second hand pump... not so much... :(

Similar issue with a previous car, but check the injector leak-off pipes are not split or cracked.

If they are in poor condition, they will let air in and the fuel will drain back to the tank, meaning long cranks to get it to the pump again.
