I have a 2005 Fiat Doblo Dynamic 19.JTD Turbo.

Currently I have noise when changing gear in 1st 2nd and some times 3rd, at all other times the car runs as normal.

The clutch is fine and the mechanic suspects the first drive in the box to be the problem.

My question is a) could it be anything else causing the noise? b) which models of Fiats from the same period share the same engine and in particular, the same gearbox.

I am looking for a second hand gearbox that is compatible.

Thank you

what type of noise does it make, crunching or squeal, has the oil been checked?

Could it be that the selector rods aren't working as they should as is a common niggle on these cars.

Thank you for replying.

The gearbox makes a crunching sound (like the grating of gears).

The oil level has been checked and it is fine with no leaks.

No the connecting rods have not been checked. What should we be looking for with these?

Thank you

it's unlikely to be the connecting rods. It will be clutch "adjustment" / travel. It's really tight on the Dob and you get the slightest bit of air in the system and it will stop it working properly.

Check that you haven't got a mat thats stopping full pedal travel (no, I'm not paking the tiss ;) ) and then try bleeding the clutch - open the slave end, stick a tube on it to catch the fluid and then just leave it for half an hour, topping up as needed. It's a truly sh*te system but once it's bled *properly* it usually OK.

Either the clutch cable needs adjusting though I'm sure it hydraulic, or the gear synchro's are worn most probably

It's gravity fed / bled hydraulic. Pumping the pedal to bleed it usually makes it worse.
To be honest I've had most success by pumping the slave then thumbing the hole on the return stroke :)
