Hi all,

i'm looking at buying a 11 plate doblo 1.3 multijet with 60k on the clock as a new work van, it's from a company local to me and i know the guy that used to drive it around, when i asked him about the van he said it was great little van good mpg etc, but a couple of times when it was really heavy rain the heater fan stopped working.

this has now put me off slightly and i can't really understand how this would happen except if water was getting into the electrics maybe? has anyone else had this issue or have any other ideas on what could be happening?

thanks in advance for any help

It could well be something at simple as "Ye Olde Loose Earth Wire". The main earth to the block goes dry-joint and when it rains tends to play up until it's fixed or dries out again. Sometimes going through a deep puddle is enough to set them off. Usually crimping the connection with a pair of pliers is enough, although ideally the joint needs remaking.
That said it doesn't sound like something that would stop me buying one.

thanks for the reply sinny. i like the van and its immaculate, also as a bonus they have just rang me today and dropped the price by £300! £3500 inc VAT for an 11 plate with 60k on the clock? not too bad that is it?

Sounds like your new Doblo to me :)

Well i bought her!! now to try and fix the fan issue! when i went to view the van again and tested the fan its now not working at all. i've read through the forum and looked at the guide over in the punto section about the wiring and burnt out connector issues. and have taken the cover under the glovebox out, but cant see any connector. this is what i can see . . .

so i'm guessing that's the fan motor with the wires going into it at the bottom,

the connector thats going into the white plastic housing is that the connector i'm looking for or is that something else?

or is the connector i might need to joint out be under all the felt covering all the wiring? i suppose i'm going to have to cut that off and have a look?

whilst i'm on with it i'm going to change the fan resistor. is that also under the glovebox area i'm struggling to locate it!

also do the newer 2010+ models have day running lights? my sidelights seem to be on all the time and i cant turn them off. or could this be related to the fan problem maybe?

thanks for any help or advice?

Yes, 2010-on have DRL's
These aren't sidelights as such, as they have higher wattage bulbs.
You can turn them off using the ESC/Menu button and scrolling through the options.
As you will discover, the DRL's don't bring on the instrument panel lights, and they can be hard to read in low light conditions, so you end up having to put headlights on just to see how fast you are going. I have no sidelight switch position, just lights on/off.
I'm not even sure if the DRL's bring on the rear lights - I've never looked!

thanks mike, I've now turned them off.

Also i've solved my problem hopefully, it turns out it was the motor that's had it. The 2010 and on doblo's don't have the connector that burns out so that's one good thing and in case any one else reads this that has the same problem the fan resistor is in the white plastic casing shown above. the fan motor unscrews with three cross head screws and drops down.
