Hi there,

First post. I have found similar problems on this forum but none are identical - I hope someone can help.

Model is 2004 Fiat Doblo 1.9

This problem happened a few weeks ago, again 10 days ago and 2 days ago once again and at this stage is parked up a few streets away from home as the battery is now flat. The problem was intermittent and always fired up after a few attempts but most recently refused to start until I flattened the battery(battery was new and allowed me about 8 minutes of solid cranking).

So, when i turn ignition key on, preheat light doesn't flash a few times as it usually does, starter cranks but there's a clicking sound in or near the fuse compartment. I can actually also feel the clicking vibrations on or very near the large square boxes on the fuse box (I'm not sure if they're fuses or relays as I'm not an electrical person).

Any ideas or advice anybody? Your help would be appreciated.

First thing to check is the earth leads from battery to chassis and chassis to engine/gearbox. One easy way to check is to connect a single jump lead from the battery negative post to solid metal on the engine/gearbox. Also check the battery positive connection is clean and tight. I don't know the Doblo, but most pre-heat lights come n solid for a second or two and then go off. Flashing my indicate a faulty heater, check the handbook.

Hi,:)
could be a fault in the glow-plug circuit, as normally the light is constant for a few seconds - then will flash after @ 30 second gap to indicate a fault,

as suggested a 2nd temporary earth lead MAY help here.. obviously use a fully charged battery also;)

IF.. it's only a couple of dodgy heater plugs, you can "cycle" them, by turning ign on , watch glow light go out, then switch off and then on , cycling the heat into them, then - after several HEAT cycles, crank the engine on the starter.. IF it's going to fire - this is the best chance;)

do all of this with a 2nd earth cable in place though:)

good luck, let us know how it goes.., (y)
