Hi,

I can't help myself, I haven't got my Doblo yet, yet I'm already thinking about mods.

Since the Doblo 1T requires tyres with a load index in the high 90's, and I'd like to go 17" if I go for alloys, the most plausible option is 225/50/17.
Now this is quite a bit wider than the stock 195/60/16 tyres (the RAM version has 215 though) and also a bit larger in diameter, I wonder if it would fit without rubbing the suspension or wheel arches (incl. while full lock steering).

Any idea?

Wouldn't do it immediately, but I'll probably have to search and look out quite a while to find the wheels I want, so it would be a lot of wasted energy and time if it didn't fit...

Your offset is usually the most important measurement, because it give a clearance between the tyre and suspension components. It's measured to the centreline of the wheel from the mounting hub.

What you need to do first is find out the offset of the original wheels, then we can go from there ;)

But as you can see from this it can either be simple, or complicated ...

http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1=205-55-16X6.5ET45&wheel2=225-45-17X7.5ET40&fcl=50mm&wcl=30mm&scl=50mm

As far as I can find online, the Doblo should have an ideal offset of 36 and the car on which the wheels I like belong should be around 37. Same center diameter, same bolt pattern.

I can't check the actual offset and clearances on the Doblo yet, as I'm (im)patiently waiting for her, and I haven't looked into the specs of the specific wheels I have in mind.

I'm hoping to get somebody who tried this tyre size on a 2010+ Doblo, so I know if it's worth checking if the wheels I'd like have the correct ET and sourcing them.

What car are the wheels off?

They're of an Alfa Romeo 156, no idea which motorisation/trim, haven't looked into it yet as it's still just an idea. I might as well get similar aftermarket alloys if I don't find the real deal or if they wouldn't fit.

You need to ask who ever is selling you the Doblo to send you a pic of one of the wheels, then theres no cock up.

If its the 4 bolt pattern, you will *probably* be OK with *most* Alfa wheels.
I run Alfa wheels on mine (2004) and I can't remember looking at an Alfa type that didn't fit.
Also look at Lancia wheels - same 4 x 98 pattern, and some very nice styles.

I'll have to be patient, as my Doblo isn't made yet...
It should be 5x98 ET37 6Jx16 195/60/16, but fitment and clearances should be the same as any Doblo MY2010 and younger.

I'm hoping somebody who tried/runs 225/50/17 will chime in, so I know if it'll work or not.

Hmmm I think you're right. I would have been inclined to nail the salesman to his desk for alloys at the point of sale and saved myself the agg :D

Hah, it's a small family garage, so the "salesman behind the desk" was actually the son scribbling down my wishes between 2 oil changes so he could figure it out after hours on his home computer... :D

Fiat doesn't offer 17" alloys on the Doblo and I don't care too much for the 16" ones you can order on the Cargo, so I got some other upgrades thrown in the deal before signing the dotted line ;)

that would be my only concern going to 17" - you're not going to have a lot of tyre wall and it might end up as a bit of a bone-shaker - but yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice ;)

I had 235/35/19 on my current car during summer, it already came with 225/45/17 and sport suspension from the factory, so 225/50/17 on a stock Doblo will be a flying carpet to me :D

Candisa, I went and checked the standard wheels on my 2011 Dobby to see what the size is. The size is a very tiny bit different to the numbers you say.

My standard Fiat Alloy wheels say 6J x 16 and ET36.5. The tyre size is 195/60 x 16 and I use T and H speed tyres. (T for winters, H for summers) The tyres are also 'C' rated van tyres.

I also looked under the wheel arches. At the front there seems to be plenty of room. At the rear it is less clear cut as my 195 tyres are only 17mm from the rear damper so adding a 30mm wider tyre at 225 might mean that they run very close or even touch the damper depending upon the tyre. I wonder if the Dodge Ram version in the US with 215's has a different wheel offset ?

Thank you!

Meanwhile I discovered:
- The alloys I have in mind have an offset of 35mm, which means a 225 tyre would theoretically sit 3.5mm from the rear damper. That's way to close! I guess 30mm would be the absolute maximum offset that could work.
- The RAM has a totally different suspension, the lug pattern, center diameter, offset... It's all different, so the fact that the RAM comes on 215 tyres means absolutely nothing for the Doblo.

I'm not comfortable changing the ET too much from standard, especially on wider and slightly bigger tyres...
So I guess I'll just use common sense and stick with steelies + covers and spend my car budget on other mods.

I demanded my Doblo to be delivered on Vredestein Quatrac 5 195/60/16 C 99H tyres by the way, so I'm good all year round. :)

Update for completeness: My garage couldn't get Vredestein Quatrac 5 tyres in the stock 195/60/15 size, so I agreed on 215/55/16.
I wouldn't want any less clearance to the rear shocks, so if anybody thinks about running 225, I'd recommend wheels with spec ET30!

Greetings,
Isabelle

Update: Still haven't bought any alloys, but I recently did some research:

Rial (any experiences?) makes a sporty yet still OEM looking wheel called the "Bavaro". It's very affordable but apparently the finish is durable enough to be used year round, including on salty roads, and...
They come with following specs:
- 7.5x17
- 58.1mm center bore
- 5x98 lug pattern
- ET 27
- Rated up to 800kg
- TÜV approved for many vehicles including the Doblo

That last bit makes me a bit more comfortable about the 1cm per side widening of the track and also makes me comfortable about running a wider wheel and tyre.

Since people report having no issues with a 7.5/225 wide wheel and tyre combo with an offset of 35mm, and I actually like how "fat" my 6/215 wide combo is looking now, I looked into running 235/45/17 tyres instead of the popular 225/50/17:
- the circumference is actually closer to that of the OEM 195/60/16 tyres
- according to my measurements it should still fit underflush in both the front and rear fenders while clearing the suspension
- Same brand and type tyres tend to be cheaper in 235/45/17 compared to 225/50/17.
