My van (JTD cargo) seems to be so reliable (touch wood...) I keep finding little things to moan about it.

The current one is at motorway speeds hovering between 65 and 70 I sometimes find an audible humming noise - It reminds me of the noise a slightly out of shape tyre might make - However it is not consistent, and is fairly often not heard at all.

Nearside wheel bearing was done recently, so I know the noise of that. Cornering doesn't appear to affect this noise. I am thinking tyres but wondered what mechanically might do it? I get no noise at town speeds, which is another reason I think tyres as only really happens above 60mph. :)

Swap the tyres front to rear.
If the noise goes, you've solve it, if it doesn't, you have't :)

Had this on my Mundane-o, tyres noisy on the front at motorway speeds, but quiet on the back.
Easy fix!

Also check you haven't got a rotational set tyre rotating the wrong way thanks to a gormless tyre fitter ;)

Some of it can be down to cargo rated van tyres. These are rarely designed to run really quiet and a slight vibration and noise as well as understeer in corners was one of the reasons I changed mine to a van tyre that had a tread more like a car. Problem solved for me.

Before changing them for another tyre I would do as the others have suggested and swap them round on the car.

Shall do

I know the ones on the back are nearly new so I shall attempt a front to back swap and see how it goes.

Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

Wonder what the next trivial little thing I can find is.
