Hi,
Would anyone know who sells the standard steel wheel rims at the right money.
I've looked around on the internet, but seem to find only facy alloy types. I'm based in Ireland so will have to get them posted here. This could be the stinger in the tail alright.
The types of tyres that are in on it are 175/70 R14. Only need the rims, as there are all new tyres on it. Found out there's a buckle in every rim.........................this came as a surprise believe me.
The Fiat Doblo in question is a 2005 1.3 multijet diesel 7 seater.
Thanks for taking a peak.
John.

It may be more cost effective to buy new alloys - they are made in huge quantities so have economy of scale - possibly £300 for a half decent set.

Nobody other than the car manufacturers would make steel rims as there is not enough of a market for them. I have no idea what Fiat would charge for a set!

I used Chris at CM Wheels for my other car, I know he's in the North, but may be easier than getting some shipped across the water. Chris comes highly recommended on a number of car forums, and to my knowledge doesn't deal in rubbish.

He doesn't advertise Fiat wheels, but he may well be able to sort you out with a set that would fit

Hi Mike,

Thanks for replying to my query. What you suggest maybe the only way to go in the long run, taking in all the costs.I must have a look at CM Wheels, and see what would be the best option. Getting secondhand ones would be too risky, and I did manage to see a price a standard rim.........................135 euros...............then delivery on top of that.
I'll stick with your idea I think.
Thanks a million Mike.
John.

No problem John,

Speak to Chris, very helpful indeed, and does give discount to members of some Forums, so it's worth asking!

Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike,
Update regarding the wheel rims. We happen to have a set of alloys from a previous car.... a Fiat 1.9jtd marea, and we thought..............shall we???.......................and we did. They did fit alright, used longer wheel studs, inside of tyre was alittle close to a cable ( sensor for the abs, I suspect). Re-routed the cable and tied into its new postion. The tyre size is 185 instead of the 175, but low and behold, took it for a good spin and then on a real bumpy road surface...................Not a problem at all. Actually seems to hug the road like a dream. Also it lowered the Doblo by 2". I'd put a pic up, but don't know how to, to be honest. Must look into that shortly. That's the latest Mike.

Sounds a good compromise as you have the clearance.

Don't forget that the 185 is "taller" than the 175, assuming that both are /70 profile - if the 185's are just 185/14, then they are even taller still.
This means that your wheel will rotate less per mile and put your speedo reading out - if they are both /70 profile, more if the 185's aren't /70's.
Get the Sat Nav out and compare - it's cheaper than a speeding ticket as your speedo will indicate slower than you are going.
Google Tyre Size Calculator for on line calcs to ee what they should be doing - the American Mazda Miata (aka MX5) site is well used for this

I'll just take my Anorak off!!

Hi Mke,
Thanks for your comments and well spotted, the 185 must be a different profile alright. I bought a Fiat Panda 1.2 Dynamic today.............................My First Panda. A beautiful machine, and an awlful lot of specs with it. I will start a new thread on the Panda section and list the details there.
Back to the tyres, on the way home my km speedo was saying 110, and the Doblo was reading close to 120. We discussed this point alright, and put it down to the tyre profile size being different. So thankfully no need for sat nav, and he'll be within speed limits at all times.
Thanks Mike for your sharp eye. Heading for the Panda site now.
John.
