Hi, I have a 2010 Doblo 2.0 which is demonstrating strange behaviour.

A couple of weeks ago I went to start the car and it didn't turn over. Ah ha I though flat battery.

Jump started the car and it started straight away.
I then drove it about 30 miles and car still wouldn't turn over.
Got another jump start and checked Alternator output which was OK.
Put a new battery on and car started straight away.
A week later same result with new battery so
cleaned the terminals with wire wool and reconnected. Car started fine.
A week later same result (this time the car started but then the dashboard kept flashing on and off for the first few minutes after the engine started although it ran fine after thatand then when I stopped the engine it failed to restart) so this time I just disconnected and reconnected the battery and it started straight away.

So disconnecting and reconnecting the battery seems to "reset" whatever the problem is for about a week before it reoccurs - I probably start the car 20-30 times/week.

A quick google search shows other brands having a similar result due to the immobiliser but it seems strange for the immobiliser to reset or flash the dashboard.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give

Hi,
Check the battery negative to chassis (earth) connection and any straps between the engine and chassis.
If you carry jump leads and it happens again try connecting a single jump lead between the battery negative terminal and the engine.
I don't think it's an immobiliser or starter motor issue if it started with a jump start.

Thanks g8rpi, I think you might have hit the nail on the head. It happened again this afternoon so I connected the negative battery terminal to the engine with a jump lead and it started straight away. I guess that means I have to work out where the dodgy connection is.

Hi,
Glad to help. It will either be the lead from battery to chassis, or less likely, Chassis to engine strap. You can narrow it down a bit more by connecting the jump lead beteen battery and chassis rather than battery and engine to see if it still fixes the problem. If it does it's the battery lead. It could be a bad crimped connection, loose nut or corrosion. Look and feel allong the cable and it's connections.

P.S. you can say thank you for a post by clicking on the little smiley by the reply and quote buttons under the text. There are also like and dislike icons.

The first generation Doblo has known problems with the chassis earth strap as a search in archive will testify, but I have not heard of a second generation 2010 onwards car having this problem.
