New to Fiat ownership & this forum so all help gratefully received.
Car - 2005 1.9 multijet turbo Diesel 105 MPV.
Having tried & failed miserably to download the manuals from this forum (anyone any hints?), I need help fault finding why the passenger compartment fan motor has suddenly stopped working. I've checked all the fuses (ok), but can't find which relay controls the motor speeds. The A/C on indicator still lights up (A/C has never worked) so there is still power to the switch presumably, just no fan running on any setting 1-4.

I'm reasonably competent, but without wiring diagrams or manuals, I'm being frustrated whenever a niggling issue like this arises (still trying to find out why the lift pump isn't working) and now know that Italian electrics are a serious weak point.

Help!

Hi Maverick61. To download manual go to aftersales.fiat.com/elum/home.aspx
Interior fan fuse is F08 in engine bay fusebox. Fan relay fuse is F31 in dash fusebox.
I think fan speeds are controlled by resistor pack on base of fan motor?

Thanks for your reply, I'll try that again & see if I have any luck with the manuals this time.

Problem turned out to be with the fan motor connector which had melted through a high resistance connection on one terminal. Suspected the resistor's connector/thermistor as that was the favourite on this forum, but the fan motor connector is just as vulnerable to overheating it seems!

Repaired using shielded Lucas type blade connectors & fan now works.
Both motor & resistor are quite accessible which is a bonus!

I've got the same thing.

Where is the fan located?

What to check out the connections.

Thanks

On the passenger side (assuming rhd) look up behind the glovebox from the footwell. That round black thing is the fan housing and the stat pack is on the side. follow the wiring to it back towards the fan switch - halfway there you find a connector. Normally when there is a problem the black earth wire has melted in the connector. Get two scotch connectors and some thicker auto wire and bridge round the connector black wire to black wire, Assuming you leave the ignition off whist you do this you will not need to isolate anything. Good luck.

One thing to check before you go for that black wire business at the connector (see last post) I have seen a situation where the black earth wire had melted and shorted into the bulkhead behind the fan housing.

Sorry should have put this in the last post.

Hi, thanks for the responses.

The problem was the actual fan. All cables ok.

Replaced fan with one from a breakers and my toes are now toastie again
