Not sure if this matters but I noticed a smattering of oil (amounting to a few drops) on the plastic engine cover by the dipstick.

The dipstick is an easy fit when pushing home, the O-ring on the top of the dipstick looks Ok(ish) but its outside diameter is marginally smaller than the bore of the dipstick tube.

Should I just get a new O-ring or is this a sign of something more sinister going on?

Any advice much appreciated

Well, the answer was to push the dipstick home properly.

There's a slight taper on the inside of the dipstick tube so if not pushed right in then the o-ring on the dipstick is a bit slack in this tube.

Did it all properly this time and no more oil leakage. Phew.

Cheers
